Yeah it's been a long time coming. Been aware of the high lvl of misogyny there, and it's only been growing since. I'd say at like for 5 years where it's been a mass movement that was sparked into flame by a famous stalker killer incident (seeing some comments in korean forums that suggest misogyny existed long before then, but there's a huge shift in intensity after this point), and nothing is being done about it. In fact, people in power are literally making it worse somehow.

That country is actively bringing itself to doom. The effect won't be immediate, but it will happen

America is not even close to that level lol. As much as America has marginally similar problems, they're nowhere near their .8 birth rate or their 69 hour work week. Yes I know they retracted it, but the problem was that people were working much longer than 69 hours per week to begin with and illegally not being paid overtime.

In America, there will be harassment campaign, but I can't recall the last time a harassment campaign led like multiple women to suicide or anything to that level. In Korea, it's a pretty regular happenstance. A woman complains? Let's doxx her and harass her and her family and friends for the next couple of months

America right now will never get there because they hadn't had to work themselves up from poverty and wartorn society like Korea had to within the last few decades. It's growing pains, but the pain is so massive that they may collapse. It's the wild west, but they got something far more wider of an influence than mere guns

It's pretty much common knowledge here that if a drunk man rapes a woman here, he will get off with probation. The common excuse is "He wouldn't normally act that way. Alcohol is to blame, not the man himself"

This has been used for rapes, assaults, murders. There was an infamous case where an old man kidnapped and brutally raped an elementary girl. Since he was drunk, he was able to get his sentence reduced and released early.

I haven't been sexually harassed but I've had co-workers and students of mine tell me about how male teachers will touch them/massage them during the school day. Even if they report it, the teachers will get lectured. The worst thing that can happen to them is they get transferred to another school.

Then there are the constant public toilet hidden cameras. The sex-slavery ring ran by pop stars. The gamer-gate-esque online culture.

I wasn't expecting it to be that bad. I read about a new feminist movement in Korea a few years ago called the 4Fs but idk if that was a response to stuff you've outlined or if it was regarding something else.

Strangely enough, SK has been directly influenced by the US. Just to an exaggerated degree.

This is anecdotal but shows a serious issue with Korean laws.

So self-defense is a joke in this country. You are only allowed to respond to an attacker with an equal amount of force.

This was back in like 2015, but some drunk man broke into a woman's apartment where she lived alone with her daughter. The mother took out a kitchen knife and stabbed the guy and pushed him out of the window (first-floor apartment).

She was found liable for his injuries and had to pay restitution to him. He was drunk, so he just got probation.

But it does factor into the bigger picture of self-defense for women here. It's pretty common for any kind of "domestic dispute" to have the police try and force both parties to make amends instead of arresting anyone, taking them to the station, and doing the paperwork. Domestic abuse numbers are pretty underrepresented as a result.

Yup. Domestic abuse is considered a personal family issue there. And if youre drunk, thats considered an acceptable excuse for committing crimes, so people get much lighter sentences if they were drunk while doing something illegal.

Its pretty bad over there. Bad enough that they even have it seeped into their dramas. There's a drama I've seen where an ex boyfriend practically stalks his ex girlfriend and everyone around her is saying "He needs closure" or "He wasn't ready to break up." Basically a break up seems like it has to be okayed by both sides, meaning one side can disagree with it or some shit.

There's several things I'm just shocked by when I watch those series. South Korea seems like its trying to imitate America but keep a lot of their Asian traditions as well.

There is currently a push to eliminate student rights laws protecting them from racial/sexual/gender identity discrimination as well as corporal punishment. It's being pushed by some Christian hardliners who claim it's discrimination against Christians.

Also there is a mosque in a very large city that has had Church members bbqing park outside its doors for months now.
