He decided to do focused punch down at the same time he was oversaturating himself. There's a reason comedians don't shotgun blast specials. Because they stop being special real quick and you start retreading and reaching. The special he decided to focus target the trans community in, he simultaneously started to sound like a parody of himself. Because it was like his 5th special in what? 5 years or something. Imo, he was saved by the controversy. Blurred lines between maturity and immaturity and all that. A lot of them refine material for specials over the course of years. Retweaking them as they perform them live in smaller venues throughout a year or 2. Sometimes up to 5. Maybe in his early years. But now he seems to just believe everything he says with full confidence. It's humbling to hear an artist that put out this amazing piece of work was super anxious it might not he perceived well the whole time they were putting into together and releasing it. Some shit you just can't escape no matter the amound of confirmation you've gotten in the past. Same for Hip Hop. Danny Brown has a super dedicated fanbase and he constantly talks about his self doubt on his podcast. That shined through in his music. But rappers have a way of confidentally stating their lack of confidence. It almost cancels itself out subconsciously.
