That's pounds, so 97.9 for you kg people.

I'm gaining it intentionally, btw. Current lifts are:

Squats: 245 for 3 sets of 5
Standing Shoulder Press: 115 for 3 sets of 5
Bench: 225 for 3 sets of 5
Deadlift: 315 for 1 set of 5

For all that, I can only do 5 chin-ups, palms facing me. Lol

This is not the strongest I've ever been, though. My peak athleticism was in 2012. I'm getting close to catching up with my 22-year-old self, though. I can be there within 2 months if I stay consistent.

These numbers are wild to me. How is your bench so strong, your squat that decent but your deadlift that low, no offense.

For reference my bench 1RM is like 180lbs and my deadlift is 400. We must have very different body shapes. I have a crappy shoulder injury that makes all pressing really difficult though.

Yeah, idk fam. I know my chest and triceps have always been very blessed, which is cool with me, because the first thing anyone asks you is how much do you bench.

And I guess my legs aren't very gifted, hence the low squat, and I've never been good at pull-ups at all, so I guess my back is my weakest muscle, compared to where it should be based on my other lifts, which would also explain my deadlift being so low.

[LFAQs-redacted-quote]

Probz around 205. I remember benching 245 for 3 sets of 5 then, and squatting 285 for 3 sets of 5.

How tall are you? Just wondering because going from 165 to 215 is a big jump even if it's mostly muscle.

5'10"

And idk if "mostly muscle" is accurate. I've gained a pretty good gut during this time. Can't wait until I'm done bulking so I can cut it back out.

Are you sure this is all muscle? 50 lbs is a lot in 5 months. You don't need to get fat to build muscle

It's definitely not all muscle. Read the post right above yours.

And no, you don't have to gain a lot of fat to gain muscle, but I don't have enough patience for a slow bulk.

Ah I see. I'm doing a different approach than you where I'm focusing on slimming and toning rather than bulking, so I was just curious. I've lost 62 lbs in the last 14.5 months doing mostly HIIT and light weight strength training (nothing more than 100 lbs). I can lift a lot more, but my goal isn't to bulk up.

May I ask what is the reason for doing it this way? Gaining a lot of fat with the muscle and then cutting the fat? Can't you just build muscle without all the fat?

The lifting program I'm doing isn't designed for someone trying to get his most aesthetic physique. It's a program designed to get you at your strongest as quickly as possible. Every single workout, I have to lift more weight than I did in the previous workout. In order to do that, I'm eating around 4000 calories per day.

That being said, I don't look like a fatty or anything. Hell, first thing in the morning, when I'm my most de-bloated, I usually don't have a protruding gut at all. Here's a pic I took earlier this week.

Here's me 2 months ago, a little later in the day (and pre-haircut lol). I'm pretty bloated from all my meals in this pic, so this is about as big as my gut gets throughout the day.

My guess which I'm pulling directly out of my ass is that he had lifted for a while before getting into a heavy lifting program with squat and dl, so as a result he has a disproportionately higher bench. Your numbers are more common, a novice/intermediate is usually around 1x bw bench, 1.5x bw squat, 2x bw dl

I mean I'm shorter than you. Even 2 inches makes a big difference for how bulky a given amount of muscle will look on you.

Idk, I've been doing this same program on and off for over a decade. Before that, I was just doing a typical "bro split" (chest on Monday, legs on Tuesday, back/bis on Wednesday, and so on).

[LFAQs-redacted-quote]

Yes, I don't even use creatine. All my gains are strictly from my diet. The only "supplement" I use right now is whey protein powder.

Not that I'm opposed to using creatine. It's just that I'm still gaining without it. When I get to a point where I can't make any more gains without creatine, I'll start using it again. It's been about a decade since I've used it as well.

Good job.
It's tough for me to gain weight like this.
In my 20s I got up to 200 from about 145 (I was ultra skinny) but it wasn't really sustainable.
I have type 2 diabetes so I lift but I stay lean. I'm not nearly as strong but aesthetically I'm happy and healthier overall with a low A1C.

I have this fear that if I start taking creatine my hair will start to thin and recede more quickly, and the gains from it are pretty minimal. I can't find any conclusive evidence one way or the other about how creatine affects hairloss.

Guys it's not steroids, creatine barely does anything other than make you retain water weight

It's like a 5% strength gain based on studies, it's so cheap it's hard to say no to free gains

The fact that the effect on strength in minimal is why I'm not very motivated to take it.

Meanwhile, it directly increases DHT production, and DHT is the trigger which can cause hair loss for people with the genetic predisposition to it. So when I dig into the literature on it I see so many conflicting reports, and think...nah you know what, I don't care if my deadlift goes up 20lbs if it means there's a chance my hairline visibly recedes.

Yeah I remember you making that topic. I wouldn't worry about that. You get creatine just by eating red meat and seafood. Like the user above said, it's not steroids.

Sure but I'm not eating steak every day, which is about as much creatine as you get from loading creatine daily.

I dunno I'm still on the fence. It's probably nothing but my gains are still coming easily enough that it doesn't feel like a dial I need to tweak yet, if that makes sense.
