I've been over AAA games for a while. The soul crushing development cycle has long since bled over into product quality.

Still find plenty of fun stuff to play though.

Cherry picking a game doesn't prove a point. Movie type games were so common now that I almost quit. Movie type games were an exception back then.

In my first post, I even mention a good modern game, and I just have to be more selective of games I pick.
Literally an entire generation of consoles made just for FMV games.

I still get hyped / excited over plenty of games, but I suspect to a lot of onlookers it might seem like I don't care much about gaming since they're all weird things and a lot of "are you playing / going to play X" people might ask will just be an immediate no

I think about this a lot considering how exhaustingly difficult it's become to get excited about a video game.

Every now and then I find something that grabs my attention for a little while. It has to jump through a lot of hoops though, I need some positive word of mouth from people who can be trusted, it can't be an mtx scam, needs to be replayable and if I could have some fun relentlessly mocking it that would be preferred. Doesn't sound like much to ask, apparently it's a lot nowadays.
Lately I'm thinking RPGs are the way to go but I don't know many people who play them and I'm not sure where to look.

Another big problem is a lot of the initial curiosity and wonderment is gone and isn't coming back.
It's far too easy to look at something and immediately have a bunch of comparisons ready, or see the dev and quickly know what to expect. You get to a point where you've played enough video games for it to have lost the allure that made it work as escapism, it becomes mundane to you.
Oh and they're getting worse and worse and greedier and greedier on average which of course sucks.

That's because the last ground breaking video game was Minecraft in 2011.

Games these days are all just reskins, fresh coat of paint. Shooting games are all the same, 3rd person action games are all the same, fighting games are all the same.

The only difference are the setting and stories.
Explain how DMC5 is the same as GoW Ragnarok or how CvS2 is the same as Tekken7?

No, I fell out of them in the late 00s/early 10s, but now I'm just as passionate about them as I was in my teens, if not more.

Older games were better because the developers couldn't ask for more money every 5 seconds and change the rules after the fact because the players are doing too good

I feel like I'm less hyped about upcoming titles but I play as ever, I just stick to the games I know and enjoy (like Rimworld and Apex Legends)

The 13 year old version would have been going wild over TotK coming out soon, as a grown ass man I'm just like eh maybe I'll pick it up

I just never have time to sit down and fully get immersed in a game. I have to sacrifice sleep to get alone time to play and it just isn't worth it

Something happened with me over the pandemic and I no longer find sinking dozens or hundreds of hours into a game appealing. When I go, I'm definitely not going to look back and wish I had one more night of gta online. Most of my gaming now is finding something fun to play on the retropie with the mrs.

Stopped playing video games January of last year.

Days Gone was the last game I played.

I just don't get anything out of it anymore.

I should be really excited about re4 Remake but I'm just not. One of my favorite games but haven't given it a second thought.
