Ive used them once or twice to do deep dives. Like the 200-300m range. Exploring those wrecks at that depth early on is easier with pipes. Thats about it though

I always have a base down below Pod 6 in that open area before the mushrooms. Great staging area for a Cyclops prior to taking it down the trench.

I dont believe any thing can harm your base other than the pressure mechanic

also it doesnt matter where you build your base. You can destruct everything for 100% material return and rebuild your base elsewhere

You can. There are videos of elaborate bases built in areas where deadly leviathans spawn endlessly. The bases are fine. It's just a matter of whether you're willing to put up with sneaking by them whenever you enter or exit the base.

Well okay, there is a facility that will have a particular piece snagged by a certain fish now and then. Also some fish can kind of attack through the walls. But I don't think they can hurt you or the base.

If youre ballsy and quick with a stasis gun, you can build to the bottom of the dead zone where 3-4 adult ghost leviathans will hound you.

They're not as bad as they seem. They look and sound intimidating, but they're pretty slow and, 90% of the time, announce themselves too early with that roar.

As long as you remember you have to actually get by said nighmares every time you wanna get in/out your base and that some hostile life will target your vehicles even if you're not riding them. Also, a few things have projectile abilities. Even if you're not a taget, the AI may still go for fish you have in your base.

There is 1 enemy that it probably isn't recommended to build by since it has an EMP attack that would probably be annoying. Granted IDK if they'd use it while you're in your base or if it will deactivate stuff within the base, but they'd still be very annoying to have to deal with.

Has to be attached to a floor (not necessarily the sea floor since I think you can build on the islands as well, but I'm not 100% sure on that). What you could probably do is use the vertical building pieces (and place a ladder in it) to connect 1 room at the bottom to a room on the surface then build a base off of that room, but it's probably not worth the effort if it's started in a biome lower than the red grassy area.

I get spooked by oceans in games, too. Any time it's too open, it just fills me with dread, whether there's something that can get you there or not. But I think fighting the heeby-jeebies is part of the fun of the game. Determining that what you need is beyond an abyss and forcing yourself to charge in, screaming the whole time. It's agonizing but it's fun.

I tried NMS after this and in my opinion its not the same.

its a good game (although hard to get into since there is a lot of overwhelming choice of what to do) but it didnt scratch the Subnautica itch

Ive heard Satisfactory might? But Ive not played it yet

I think it just does that to make it seem like it's falling apart and unstable (and since the crash side is near the edge of the map, it could also be to make it seem like it's slowly sliding off even though it actually isn't). Which it is lorewise of course but in game nothing is really happening.

It could be that. But it's also worth noting that the creators said that Subnautica ended up being a lot scarier to fans than they had intended. So they took steps to make Below Zero much less scary.

Are you trying to connect it directly to another room? It works better if you make a hallway first. It may also be too close to another room. So you might need to make the hallway longer, or turn it.

You can connect certain sides with hallways. If the angles and location are too weird, you can also just put a hatch on the scanner room and enter it directly. I think as long as it's close enough to a power source or a powered up room, it should be functional.

Also, if you have a locker or something in the way of the connection point inside a room, you can't build anything at that connection point.

But the scanning room in particular will only connect at two points because it has a interior module on the other two sides.

The scanner room has an external kamera on two of it's sides, and thus, only has two sides for konnecting to stuff. I don't know abou PC, but on PS4, the d-pad lets you rotate rooms before building them.
