It depends on the role
If I really want one and I felt like the place wasn't just 'work' and the people enjoyed their jobs then yes I usually do
I've only ever done this three times tho since only three companies seemed like a place I'd enjoy being in and the people seemed like they cared about the work

After the interview is over you should start clapping as well.

Did at first, because that's what the folks at my school's career development office recommended.

It causes me a fuck ton of anxiety, though, and so now my policy is to only do it if I felt a real connection with the interviewer, like finding out that they're also a gamer or Lord of the Rings fan.

Imo it does nothing to help, unfortunately.

It's only fitting if it was a good interview.

If their top prospect didn't want it and they move onto secondary prospects instead of reposting opening, they're going to look for things that stand out and are good about those left.

Always. Even though it's a small gesture, it can help break a stalemate or lead to invitation to apply for other positions.

The one job that finally gave me an offer was one that I didnt send a proper thank you to.

But thats because they went two hours over the allotted time and had me interview four different people in succession (with long waiting times in between).

i do, yeah. but the last time i did it was actually useful, because the interviews themselves were basically like meeting new friends that i wanted to hang out with, so the followup emails were more like 'hey it was awesome meeting you and we should definitely hang out sometime.'

i did absolutely get that job btw

Well, first day of work, and theyre still giving me problems.

Two more hours just to let me in, only to find out that nobodys fucking here except some other new guy who literally only just started last Monday.

Red flags all over this fucking place.

I haven't been on a job interview in over 13 years, and I got offered the job on the spot for my current job, but before that, the one time I did send a thank you message I got the job.

But that was over 17 years ago, so I don't know how things have changed since then.

I do, but only as a courtesy and not as an expectation that it will sway the hiring managers decision either way, although you never know.

Someone who is on my team currently sent one to the hiring manager at the time, but not me although I was on the interview panel. That manager has since retired and now he reports to me. I have not forgotten this.

So I guess either dont send them at all, or be sure to send them to everyone and dont leave certain folks out?

I did for my current job. I explained my desire for the job, giving out more references if needed, examples of my past work and detail my nervousness from the interview. It apparently worked since I got the job.

Also good companies and organization will give you feedback if they don't hire you so there's that.
