I bet many people back then thought the world was going to end. The Spanish flu killed 3 times more than covid did and they didn't have a vaccine. Then you had world war 1. After that the great depression in the 30s where everyone was poor. And then of course WW2 to top it all off. Holy shit they lived through a shit time. ... Copied to Clipboard!

Depends where you were. America in the 1940s was finally pulling out of the depression so there was actually an increase in hope and feeling of solidarity supporting the war effort without feeling too many effects of it directly outside of rationing.
