I think the Garrador is actually one of his most successful fights. It's probably the closest thing the game has to a clicker.

That's Japanese content in general. Everyone involved does absurd feats of strength period. That was actually one of the changes in Trigun to Stampede. In the original the rest of the cast never really does anything superhuman and even make remarks about how in-human Vash was. Because superhuman feats were completely normalized by the remake, however, not only do the characters not make remarks they also do superhuman feats (just to a lesser extent).

Joel would be permanently crippled, if not dead, after Mendez tosses him into a wall in their 1st meeting. If he even made it that far.

Leon w/ Ellie instead of Ashley would certainly be a much more competent duo though.

Ye. Rule of Cool is fun, it's just that Japan goes ham with it to the point where anything not something driven exclusively off of emotional stakes (stuff like horror or drama) is going to be heavily biased around having the Rule of Cool be the driving factor for most every plot development.

The answer is simple: because it is dramatically more flagrant in Japanese media than it is everywhere else. In America you get big bulky men doing macho crap with explosions everywhere (thus post RE4 being more "American" in your other post: it has more explosions... that's it). It, however, has nothing to do with characters being excessively over the top in completely inhuman ways. Let's take Halo as a good example. In it you play as super macho man Master Chief. He is in a super cyber suit that he is the only one left alive that can even wear it because everyone else is dead. Super edgy crap. That, however, is all relatively explained and is superhuman in a very standard term. Compared to the *insert anime here* protagonist being a teenager with no training and whatnot being able to jump like OG Superman on the fly it feels extremely grounded. And that's ignoring the fact that a major reason for the augmentation in Halo was to allow for surviving the blunt force trauma that an average Shonen protagonist has to deal with every episode multiples of times.

There is certainly the existence of characters that live and die off of the Rule of Cool elsewhere, comic books are a good example there, but the overwhelming majority of Japanese/imitating Japanese media are heavily based around characters with the most vague of threads to power doing stuff out of Warhammer. Even supposedly extremely grounded things that shouldn't really have characters even needing superhuman whatever end up doing stuff that is pretty questionable sheerly because it is just completely normalized. *Every* character can jump at least their height, a person's emotions are enough to shrug off a bat to the head, etc.

No, the trope is that you play as a badass super soldier, alien with superpowers, or someone who absolutely is very much not a normal person. Like, the "regular person who is actually superhuman" is practically the opposite of "Americanized." Otherwise basically no major media anything would apply to what you're talking about. Certainly it would exist, but when you basically have to write off every FPS, every action game, and, like, half of the RPGs the basis for what you're talking about is super suspect.

I was going on the idea that game mechanics aren't involved though, there's no reason Joel would only be able to carry like twenty bullets or whatever the in-game max is.

Clickers are way more dangerous than garradors tbh. Smarter too, I think. I don't think Leon is surviving being locked in a tiny cage with a clicker, but I think both teams could survive being in one with a Garrador. Particularly because the cage is only sort of locked.

You can though. Remake even has a trophy for killing one knife only and it's pretty easy to repeatedly stealth one. That's one enemy Joel is genuinely prepared to handle.
