I had a lot games back in the day, but I lived in the middle of nowhere near a small town and never really had anyone over besides some relatives. I loved my games, but I sort of felt cheated, because all those magazine ads made it seem like a blast to play with a bunch of other people. What was your experience like? Did I really miss out or was gaming with friends a lot kind of a marketing thing more than the reality?

Yeah 99% of what me and my friends did throughout childhood was couch gaming and after school sports. Until about 10th grade when we discovered Mary Jane, then it was just gaming.

I had two friends when I was 5-8 years old - the one just owned a Genesis, and the other had a dad who wrote video game reviews and constantly had the newest SNES and NES games. I had an NES and an SNES myself, but nowhere near as many games as the second friend I mentioned. We'd go in his dad's storage room and just pick out random games sitting on the floor all the time. My babysitters also had a TurboGrafx.

When I was 9 I moved, and I immediately made 2 new best friends. The one was kind of spoiled and him and his brother constantly had the newest games/systems -- and my other best friend mostly played PC games, like Worms and Diablo.

Even before school and making friends I'd play NES with my family. So yes, video games have always been a big part of my life -- and I've usually always had people to play with.

Videogames, along with D&D, was one of the main things I did when hanging out with my friends growing up. Not having friends to game with, and multiplayer mostly transitioning to online gaming were the main reasons I lost interest in console gaming.

Yup. Mario Kart, Goldeneye were some of the popular games. Living in an apartment complex at the time I recall every kid going to each other's houses to play video games.

So many Sundays were spent either going round my buddy's house or him coming round mine to smash out some Mega Drive sessions.

There was probably a solid six months where we literally played Streets of Rage 2 start to finish every single week.

Yeah. I was fortunate enough to have a best friend who was also my next door neighbour. We also had a couple other friends who lived close by.

I've got lots of good memories playing games with them after school or staying up all night during sleepovers. My friend had N64 so we played a lot of 4 player games like Goldeneye, Duke Nukem 64, Diddy Kong Racing etc.

Playing Mario Kart, Smash Bros, Halo, etc with others was a blast. Even single player games, passing them back and forth, figuring out puzzles was a bunch of fun.

It was mostly fighters I remember. We would make tournaments or other such competitions amongst ourselves.

We didn't play many fighters but we did set up our own little tourneys playing NES games like Blades of Steel or Bad News Baseball.

For sure, it was pretty much all we wanted to do. The ones that got the most play were the NHL series, Streets of Rage 2, Mario Kart/Party 2, Perfect Dark, and the AKI wrestling games.

Smash, Mario Kart, Goldeneye, a number of wrestling games, Urban Reign and many others provided some fantastic multiplayer memories.

The best was couch co-op on the N64. Mario Kart, GoldenEye, Smash Bros, Diddy Kong Racing, Bomberman, Perfect Dark, and the list goes on. I lived in a cul-de-sac in a neighborhood for young families, so I was always with friends.

My all time favorite memory was on a snow day. They only come maybe once a year in Texas, so they were extra special. After playing soccer and capture the flag, we all went inside to play some Conker's Bad Fur Day multiplayer. My friend's mom was shocked that we were inside on a snow day, but we all just had to get down on some gaming

I did, but most of my memories with friends were non-gaming stuff. I remember playing Breath of Fire 3 with my friend and we had some other friends who had this badass Looney Tunes Basketball game on SNES. I NEVER could find that game, but it was so fun.

Yeah. I grew up in a household with 6 of us liking to play video games, and all of me and my brother's friends liked playing video games so there was never a lack of couch co-op, competitive, and mooching games from one another going on. We got so much use out of the nintendo 64 for it's easily accessible local 4 player capabilities. Pretty much all I used it for really once I was done with like the 4 or 5 single player games I really enjoyed from the console.

My dad, my brother and I's favorite genre was beat'em ups, so we practically played every single 1 that existed on the NES, SNES and genesis. A day where you are chillin' and beating river city ransome on co-op with the fam......man those days were great. Don't even get me started on just how much me, my brother and my two nephews played the absolute bull-shit out of gauntlet legends.
