I was interested in the premise until I accidentally caught a trailer that made it look way darker than I expected. Will still probably check it out soonish.

.It's not too dark so far. There are some emotional moments but it's mostly a comedy.

Binged it all in one day today. What a roller coaster of a show, with the last episodes being an absolute trip.

I've only seen Steven Yeun in The Walking Dead (really wanna watch Minari) but from what I remember he was a good actor and his role in this is even better.

What really impressed me was Ali Wong. I thought she was okay in Always Be My Maybe, but she really showed range here and that she's not just a comedian.

You should watch Burning if you like psycho Steven Yeun. Great movie and a great performance.

Ali Wong has chops. She's been the highlight of the show for me so far. Her and cousin Isaac lol

For sure. Thanks for the rec

Also, funny fact. I had recently got into the Dumbfoundead podcast and one of the more recent episodes featured this chubby looking Korean dude named Rekstizzy or something.

Imagine my surprise when I started watching Beef and he was fucking in it as Bobby lol. Never heard of or seen this dude my whole life, he ends up popping up twice in the span of a few weeks.

I finished it a few hours ago actually. Loved it. My fiance cried. Fantastic ending imo and perfect for those two. I did kinda hate how dark (visually) everything was in the night scenes cuz some of the shots were fucking awesome but were incredibly hard to make out on my TV, which is a pretty decent TV. I'm very glad we had an entire episode where they just talked to eachother, that's exactly what I wanted.

The penultimate episode tho was next level. Just balls to the wall bonkers.

Yeah when rich lady got severed in half by the panic room door holy shit. And I agree it was nice to see them talk it out and gain some empathy for each other, even if a lot of it was some weird trip lol.

Best show I've seen so far this year. Beautiful, hilarious, and incredibly dark encapsulation of the millenial first or second gen immigrant experience and their generational trauma.

Yep yep. She was also in Always Be My Maybe with Randall Park but that one was a bit one dimensional of her with her comedian side. While Beef does have its share of comedy, she really shows her acting chops in it.

I binged it all the day it came out (I didn't know it had just come out at the time, but that explains why there were no topics about it).

I loved it. they were both great. I don't think I've seen Ali Wong before. Steven Yeun I've seen in Walking Dead and Mayhem and he sort of met the tones of those two characters in the middle and amplified them both for this if that makes sense to anyone that's seen all of them lol. The peripheral characters were great too, from Ali Wong's mother in law and daughter to Cousin Isaac and his bumbling buddies.

It actually felt a lot like the Fargo TV show in Season 1, in that it had a mid to late season semi-resolution and time jump where both characters were apart and thriving and then suddenly they were back on the collision course again by their own actions. The ambiguous ending works for me. I'm happy if it's a one and done. I think it has great potential as an anthology. I don't see a need for the season 1 story to extend further though, so those first 2 possibilities are much better than continuation as is.

And that panic room sequence. lmao.

Overall, it felt quite Coen Bros. inspired but not at all derivative of their work, just like... sprinkled with inspiration from it, and that's always a good thing imo.

I was also surprised that each episode was only 30-40 minutes. I wasn't paying attention to time. I didn't look at timestamps (>_<) and it felt longer just because I felt captivated the whole time. And I loved the nostalgic soundtrack too. There has not been any movie or show recently that has had that much music that I used to listen to regularly.

That Incubus needle drop was fantastic imo. Made me like Steven Yeun even more than I thought I possibly could

Also of course Mayonaise at the end. Just hit me in the god damn chest. It's also my favorite SP song.

The trip was the best part...that might have been my favorite episode--the end feels very much like a k-drama which makes sense.

unless they want to make an anthology series with different characters each season...

So what was Dannys plan with the gas can and gloves?

Was that for Pauls benefit or was he trying to convince the fire investigators to change their mind (because that would be a stretch)

and then you see the empty spool of 14 gauge later on?
