Every day, I see CE becoming more and more boomer. We used to be allies, but it's really obvious there is a strange generational gap between myself and you guys.

It feels like I'm listening to my parents.

They're just getting older. As a young Gen Xer I looked at my generation and thought, we're all about irony and self-deprecation, and we seem a lot more self-aware than previous generations. I'm sure we won't just look at things from our youth with rose-colored glasses and say everything the younger generations like is bad because we don't understand it. But then I watched as they hit their thirties and forties and saw that a depressingly high number of them were no more self-aware than the boomers who said "don't trust anyone over thirty" and then became exactly like those older folks they were rebelling against.

The median age of GameFAQs is creeping upward. It's mostly aging millenials who are nostalgic for 90s - 2000s kids shows and want to return the "good old days" of the internet before smart phones and social media. It's inevitable that a lot of them are going to be just like the generations before them.

Comfort yourself with the knowledge that we don't have to be like that. We can stay open minded to new things even into our 80s if we want, and hopefully we'll be helping society as a whole slowly become more like that.

I've always hated common jargon just because it makes me think a person doesn't have much original thought if they're just parroting buzzphrases all the time

There's has been a somewhat noticeable consolidation of slang. There was definitely a period of conversations with "no wey/ no yeah, fer shure, totally, as if, duh, chill, get real, wannabe, smooth move, talk to the hand, don't go there" and at the same time there was a separate culture of AAVE slang. Now it's almost all some kind of AAVE slang "thot, trap queen, lowkey, fam, bet, drip, slaps, bet, on god, no cap, bussin, mid, pop off, run in back".

I'm not saying anything is better than the other, it's was just kind of weird seeing white 20-something twitch streamers being like "Low key kinda bussing, on god no cap. Sheeeeesh". I watch Offlinetv and they were doing it for like a year or so before Valkyrae got in trouble for saying "No cap on a stack frfr". I know they're Asian and not white, but like half of them were in their early to mid twenties and just copying twitter and Tiktok slang.
