Can't say I care for them. It's always interesting to see exactly where they draw the line as far as what life is 'sacred' and what life is not. They're not so much 'prolife' as they are 'anti woman'.

I dislike that they're pro life.

Anecdotally, they've been the most inhumane "fuck you, I got mine" people I've encountered.

Fetuses are sacred but kids, schools, healthcare, etc.? Crickets if not hostility.

Which is funny, cause that's what happening in this topic in the opposite way. Not everyone who has beliefs wants to enforce them on everyone else.

I personally wouldn't want a baby created from my sperm to be aborted. It would be emotionally taxing. But, I don't care what others do and I realize I can't (and don't want to) control a woman to have a baby. But it doesn't mean I can't fight for what I want in any capacity.

And people always say "this isn't the conversation". And yes, it's because the normal conversation has been overdone and it makes sense to further the conversation ot make it more personal and actually get into nuances instead of just go over the same talking points for the millionth time

Pretty much this. A lot of them have almost pure contempt for animal life, for instance. A lot of them were very pro- foreign wars as well during the Bush and Obama years

I've known some super cool super liberal people who were vehemently pro-life. If you believe that a fetus has human rights, it's easy to see why the rights of the fetus should be considered as well as the person carrying it.

The people who take pro-life stances based on religion can fuck off, though.

I don't like that opinion, but being pro-life isn't enough to make me dislike a person unless they go to some extreme about it like harassing people at Planned Parenthood or threatening violence or something.

You don't really realize how nuanced the average person is until you stop getting all your socializing input off the internet. Which isn't all one sides fault. A lot of people just don't care to explain themselves deeper until they're actually pressed in person where they actually feel a sense of responsibility to dig deeper. Id chill in person with anyone here. Cause I know it would be completely different from how they're perceived here. Attitudes would be turned down and they'd think out their responses more. And that includes me.

the same pro life people that claim to be about defending life are the ones that:

• want the death penalty to come back
• want backwards death penalty methods such as execution by shooting to come back
• want the death penalty to be assigned to crimes that currently dont codify it
• are all for denying life saving health care to people
• are all for leaving single mothers and newborn babies to pull by their bootstraps
• get a boner at the thought of war

I truly believe that social media and online-only socializing are a big part of why there's so much anger and depression these days. Experts say that the majority of communication comes through nonverbally.

Cut out all that body language, all that realtime facial expressiveness, all those hints of empathy or emotion, and reduce communication down to nothing but words and pictures? Of course it's going to be limited. It's going to be basic, raw, and easily misinterpreted. The "/s" for sarcasm is kind of a joke, but it's also real. Sarcasm doesn't play well in text.

On top of that, there's John Gabriel's "Greater Internet Fuckwad Theory," which is:

Normal Person + Anonymity + Audience = Total Fuckwad

Basically... social media is just a stage designed for people to act like jerks to each other with minimal consequence.

Regularly. My family is from the deep south, their entire personality is the Fox News loop. And most of their town is the same way. These people don't give a shit about babies or else they'd care after they're born. Spoilers: they don't.

Just because you wanna downplay how viciously hateful prolifers can be (I'm shocked!) doesn't mean I'm going to.

As long as they don't force their shit on everyone else, I'm fine with their stance. But if they do try to force it on others, fuck 'em.

I'm pro-life, but that doesn't mean that other pro-lifers are my friends or that pro-choice are my enemies.

If you explain to them that anti-abortion laws make it impossible for women who will die in child birth to get the procedure done that will save their life, even when the doctor has stated that there is a 99% probability that the baby will also die in child birth or is already dead, and they ignore everything you said and just start spewing more of their religious rhetoric, then yes, I dislike that person.

Most anti-abortion people haven't thought that deeply about it, and they don't want the termination of potential human life just because people have sex irresponsibly. Honestly, I understand their concern, and agree with them that there's more at stake than just a woman's body and her choice.

Anti-abortion and pro-life are not the same thing. Pro-life are in special camp. beyond that like I side in my post up above. That don't care about life when it is here. So they shouldn't call themselves that.

Christians donate more to charity and the needy than non religious people. I know the angle you're using, pro life people care about the fetus then when they're actually born it's all boot straps.

But that's not really true. Lots of hospitals were founded by Christians, that's why they have names like Lutheran or they're named after a Saint. Soup kitchens, the old Christian Children's Fund, salvation army, food drives, clothing donations. "Pro life" people do a lot to help others in their community *and around the world.

Pro life beliefs come from biblical teachings about sexual morality and the sanctity of life. Like what's the ultimate birth control? Abstinence. It's cliche now but there are very well thought out stances regarding sex that are based on morals, ethics, and principles. They just aren't articulated that often because Christianity has lost relevance with many young people.

Distaste for social welfare isn't just because some don't care. I'm sure some pro lifers don't care but many do. However they may not believe the government is the best institution to implement these programs due to the inefficiency and corruption that comes with spending other people's money.
