Realize that modern religions cherry-pick the FUCK out of the book and twist it to mean whatever the hell they want it to mean.

Realize that the same section of the Bible that describes homosexuality as a sin also says that eating shellfish is a sin, or wearing mixed fiber cloth.

They refuse to take the Bible as word-for-word truth as-is because it just doesn't make any damn sense and science has disproven most of it.

But then they choose certain parts of it to take matter of factly as-is and ignore other pieces just sentences away.

Why this differentiation?

Oh, "Because we've learned to understand the true meaning of the book over the centuries".

Or - you know - it's a bunch of bullshit and you're grasping at straws trying to keep your bigotry relevant in the modern era by keeping the cult going.

The majority of Americans identify as religious/spiritual by the way - explains a hell of a lot.

There's a reason why people are becoming less religious

Yeah I've always held that it's basically impossible to hold any major leadership position in an organized religion and still actually believe in that religion. I don't think you can really run things if you aren't completely aware of what is real and what isn't.

Yeah, growing up, the bible started raising a lot of questions that I didn't get satisfactory answers to. Such as how do we know these are the words of God if they were written by man? And how do we know the meaning hasn't been lost if it's been "translated" so many times?

Like, there's a verse that conservatives use as "proof" that cross dressing is seen as an abomination, and since transgender people, in their eyes, are no different from cross dressers, they also fit into being abominations. But several churches contest that the literal translation is wrong. The verse isn't taking about cross dressing, but rather, wearing the clothes belonging to other faiths. So in other words, it calls people that participate in other faiths abominations. But they won't acknowledge that as the real meaning.
