This actually looks pretty solid. Wish they didn't spoil the return of the cat but that's minor enough.

I'm crossing my fingers that this can give Carol's character a needed makeover - she was just too dry in Captain Marvel, and Brie Larson is more than capable of being fun and energetic.
Also this. She's so damn bland in her other appearances. Give her a personality.

Yes but I'm wondering why you think the trolls would care. You're kind of saying they have a point and, if they changed the character, then the complaints will stop. They won't.

To the first point, she could use a character makeover, and I'm crossing my fingers this movie will deliver. There's some potential there, but she was just too dry in her first movie + IW / Endgame. Not singling her out, either - MCU Cap wasn't Cap as we know him today until Winter Soldier, and both the character and the franchise as a whole benefitted from it.

To the second, you're right; I think we all know that Brie Larson could spend the first 20 minutes of the movie giving a tearful mea culpa over how badly she offended the moviegoing masses by daring to be outspoken in like two interviews - while also proclaiming the Quartering guy to be sexiest man alive - and it wouldn't make a dent in changing those particular minds.
Pretty much all of this. Although her being "dry" was due to the amnesia angle, so it's understandable for me.

People who avoided Ms Marvel are going to be confused by how this story starts

The very last scene of the season finale was basically a cliffhanger leading into this movie

I'm confused by it. Beyond Ms. Marvel and Captain Marvel, who is the third person?

And why is there a giant space station in orbit? That would have been really helpful in the last Avengers movie to deal with Thanos's ship.

And who're these "bad guys" in the film?

That's Monica Rambeau, who was a child in the first film. Which I'm sure will be explained in the film for those who missed WandaVision.

Your other questions will also be answered in the movie. That station may actually be a ship or not in Earth's orbit or any other number of things.

Monica Rambeau, she was introduced in WandaVision, which shows how she got her powers.

EDIT: Forgot she appeared as a child in the first Captain Marvel movie

I believe that space station is for the organization "S.W.O.R.D", which was introduced in Spider-Man: Far From Home, so it was likely created after the events of Endgame.

That's nice, but she's got a superhero costume. So... what superhero is she? The trailer makes it seem like we should already know.

The 2nd. She came after Captain Mar-Vell (who was technically in the first movie, but was a woman instead and might as well have been a totally different character)

WandaVision shows her "origin" story but she didn't really take up a superhero persona in that show.

They'd better do a proper introduction, then. Otherwise the audience is going to be lost. I haven't the foggiest clue who Photon/Spectrum is... and the trailer didn't do a thing to clear it up.

I mean, just look at the Guardians of the Galaxy trailer for a comparison. Nobody (outside of real fans) knew who they were... and the trailer did wonders in describing them so the audience knew who the film was going to be about.

I'm guessing you skipped WandaVision? In the comics, she was exposed to extra-dimensional energy which caused her to mutate and gain powers. But in the MCU she gained powers due to the events of WandaVision.

The space station belongs to S.W.O.R.D. (Sentient Weapon Observation and Response Department) which was founded by Monica's mother. As for why they didn't help before now? Same reason every other hero doesn't help until after they're introduced in universe. It's best not to read too far into that stuff. It's not a perfect continuity

I don't have Disney+, so I'm not watching any of the TV shows.

Marvel movies used to be of the sort where you didn't need to watch their television shows for the movies to make sense.

Now, though? I don't think they are follow their own standard anymore.

The TV shows have been a huge part of phase 4. You're going to miss a lot if you willfully skip them.

In addition to Monica's origin, Wanda's entire motivation for doing what she did in Dr Strange 2, was because of WandaVision.

One of the Antagonists in Ant-Man 3 was introduced in Loki.

Kamala Khan, who is also in The Marvels, was introduced through her show Ms Marvel.

There's another MCU movie in the works that will include characters introduced in Hawkeye.

We've had confirmation that Captain America 4 is coming. Which will be confusing as hell for anyone that skipped The Falcon and The Winter Soldier.

And She-Hulk is supposed to be part of the next Avengers movie.

So yeah... If you still enjoy Marvel, you're doing yourself a disservice by skipping the shows. Because there's a lot of setup happening through those.

If people were able to skip an MCU film and then watch the team-up film like Civil War or any of the Avengers films without their heads exploding, they'll be just fine watching this film. The inclusion of 2 characters from a show won't have people massively panning a sequel to one of the most successful movies of 2019.

The only reason older mcu shows didn't do that is because they were run by Netflix who didn't have as close a relationship with the movie people. The people making the movies never liked the netflix people and they chose to ignore all those shows. Disney plus shows get acknowledged in movies. Because they are directly created by Disney themselves.

... you ok over there?

number of tickets sold globally is also for all movies all the time, not just comparing the performance of movie A to streaming show B.

Even if the figure was just between two comparable products instead of THE ENTIRE MOVIE INDUSTRY to one streaming service, tickets sold are at minimum total viewers, but likely significantly more because many people see things they liked multiple times and every single person needs their own ticket.

Streaming service subscriptions will be significantly lower than the total number of viewers because it's generally one house hold with one subscription, who often shares with other households, and may host watch parties with friends / family, and the single subscription also covers multiple viewings pushing it even further away from the movie ticket sales number.
