I'm wondering if diet also affects how bad the arm pits smell
It can. Onions make it worse.

I use Every Man Jack deodorant and it's normally good for me. It's aluminum free and doesn't irritate my skin. Plus it comes in a lot of nice woodsy scents.

But when I get the anxiety sweats my arm pits smell like cat piss so I'll opt for any old aluminum based antiperspirant.

I used to use those too, but I switched from one scent to another once and even that made me break out in a rash and now they all do. Shame cause I really liked their scents, and they didn't have the tacky packaging old spice does either. Now I'm just using a Dove deodorant, it works pretty fine and has a mild scent.

Yeah I tried some gel deodorants when I was younger. Hated all of them. My go to has been right guard extreme defense for two decades now. Keeps my pits smelling fresh no matter how much I sweat in 1 day.
