NPR said Wednesday it will stop sharing content on Twitter after the social media company labeled NPR state-affiliated media, a term also used for Russia- and China-based propaganda outlets. The news outlets organizational accounts will no longer post new content on its 52 official Twitter feeds, becoming the first major U.S. news organization to do so since Elon Musk took over Twitter late last year. NPR was surprised by Twitters decision to label the company state-affiliated media, according to a report by the outlet. When pressed by an NPR reporter in an email exchange, Musk conceded that the label might not have been accurate. Twitter then changed the label on NPRs account to government-funded media. The news organization said this label is still inaccurate and misleading since NPR is an editorially independent nonprofit company, according to the report. NPR receives less than 1 percent of its $300 million annual budget from the federally funded Corporation for Public Broadcasting, the outlet wrote.

Twitter also briefly added a government-funded media tag to the British news outlet BBC, but BBC said in a report Wednesday that Musk agreed to change the label to publicly funded. As of Wednesday morning, no label is visible on any BBC Twitter accounts. The new label designations are the latest policy changes Musk has implemented since his tumultuous $44 billion acquisition of the social media platform.

Isn't Musk himself government funded? His companies only became as successful as they are now due to the numerous generous subsidies he received from the government.

Yea this is pretty fucked up. NPR regularly has conservative talking heads on their programs and it's pretty annoying they kowtow to them only to still get shit on by them and figureheads of the dumbfuck party like Musk.

according to the right, anyone critical of the right is an outsider. look at how they outcast their own who speak out by calling them RINOs.

Coming to think about it.

1) Musk is South African. Not just born in South Africa, but born and raised, and a member of the SA elite, with his parents owning and running blood emerald mines

2) South Africa is part of the BRICS. Theyre the S in BRICS.

3) Russia is also part of BRICS.

4) Musk is always shilling for Russia and shitting on the US and trying to cause panic, chaos and overtopping democracy in USA, like Russia would like.

Isn't Musk himself government funded? His companies only became as successful as they are now due to the numerous generous subsidies he received from the government.

The local NPR affiliate (KCRW) pointed out that NPR receives 1% of its funding from the government. That's far, far less than either SpaceX or Tesla receive.
