You can find people who believe just about any stupid thing you can think of.

Yes, there are still idiots.

Honestly, they probably just weren't taught evolution correctly.
When I was taught it when I was in middle school, my science teacher straight up told us "I don't believe in it, but u have to teach it to you all. You've all played Pokemon right? It's just like that."

Since having been taught what it actually is, it's pretty undeniable. Hell, artificial selection that humans themselves have done proves the theory of evolution.

Sadly, yes. The talking points that evangelicals were using in the '90s and 2000s never went away, though a majority of the country now believes in evolution. Even among young people, you have to walk on eggshells when talking about tlanything related to that subject in parts of the South.

There are people in this world who legitimately ate tide pods, and you have a hard time believing this?

Unfortunately, religion plus a poor education.

2 biggest misconceptions I hear the most are that we evolved from literal chimpanzees, and that it's just a theory.

Well if they think the universe was created 5000 years ago, of course they would think evolution is a myth.

The Bible explains the origin of all things in the very first verse.
Time, space, and matter is what is called a continuum.
All of them have to come into existence at the same instant.
If there were matter but no space, where would you put it?
If there were matter and space but no time, when would you put it?
Everything needed to occur simultaneously.
In the beginning (Time), God created the heavens (Space), and the Earth (Matter).
Time is past, present and future.
Space has height, width and depth.
Matter has solid, liquid and gas.
There's a trinity in these.
God, who created this all, must have been outside of this universe.
He's above it, beyond it, in it, through it, and perhaps exists out in the void, a place beyond the universe.
Please don't make fun of those with faith and wanting to understand this all.
As for me, I'm still searching for the truth.
I wish accounts like yours would be banned for shaming others on their beliefs.

It doesn't feel like we evolved from monkey or a common ancestor or whatever. Feels more like a simulated reality if anything.

They're also likely hung up on a complete misinterpretation of the "THEORY" of Evolution as well.

Evolution and Intelligent Design doesn't even need to clash with one another... unless they believe the Intelligent Designer is the Judeo Chritian God from the "holy texts". Then yeah I can see it being clashed with their beliefs.

People that believe in conversion therapy deserve to be bullied. Abusers don't deserve kid gloves.

So? That doesnt make the reverse ok.

For one thing there are a lot more religious than non-religious people in the world so there are naturally more religious bullies than non-religious bullies.

But its important to remember that the loudest atheists tend to also be anti-theists, which admittedly makes things kind of confusing.

It has to do with the ideas people push and the impact they have. No one is dunking on Christians for turning the other cheek or being gracious towards their fellow man. No one hates on Muslims for complying with their obligation to be charitable. Even when people believe the entire religion is false.

So why do you think people are less than pleasant when the subject is conversion therapy, intelligent design, anti-LGBT laws, or banning abortion? Don't you think there's a difference between that and charity? Or some common negative qualities that tie these latter examples together? Those are all religious beliefs, so maybe religion being the source of the beliefs or even the veracity of the religion is not the issue????

I thought the original implication was that atheists should focus more on being positive rather than negative members of society.

That's no surprise to me. I grew up around that stupid line of thinking, and even went to a school that taught it for two years. Ugh.

I don't see how you could possibly get that implication from a guy saying atheists should stop debunking shitty religious talking point A and instead devote their time to debunking shitty religious talking point B, but sure.

If I were a religious person in that audience who saw that act, I'd probably walk away from it believing in evolution.

Whatever, keep pretending that atheists dont bully religious people. First of all Im not going to bother clarifying that statement because atheists tend not to either, so they should understand what Im talking about.

Like, if you are mean to a group of people - insult them, regularly straw man their beliefs, etc. (and that includes being condescending to them BTW) - because they follow a religion or because of their religious beliefs, that is bullying.
I dont know what else to tell you. You dont have to stop that type of behavior, but you really shouldnt pretend it is anything more than it is.
