Ive only been a few times. I had a childhood friend who went, and whenever I would stay over on a Saturday night, I would go with them the next day.

Yes, though mainly because my mom made me go. But I was also more devout back then than I am now.

I attended church as a child. I didn't have a choice in that. I attended church as a young adult. I stopped when my church started openly courting the Republican party. I probably would have stopped regardless.

I'm still a Christian, but I don't like getting up early on the weekend and I don't like hearing the same messages again and again.

my parents had a Catholic upbringing, but my dad didn't want to impose anything on us, and let us decide on our on, so I only ever went to church for a few weddings, a memorial, and a couple of my cousins confirmations.

if it was up to my mom, though, we would have definitely had to go.

Less as time went on, but then I went to Catholic school for 7th and 8th grade and iirc we went once a week during school time. Nothing but weddings and funerals since then.

My aunt/uncle went and sometimes we'd tag along, but it was more family bonding than about religion. Never talked about religion outside church.

Up until around 8th grade.

Granted, I went to Catholic school all the way till 8th grade, so it was kinda a requirement, as we went to mass during school once every other week.

Unfortunately, my mother was a religious zealot back when I was young. She belonged to a charismatic Assembly of God church, where people say they speak in tongues until you press them on what scripture calls tongues, then the rephrase I meant prayer tongue.

Prayer tongue. :-/

humbullahumballahhumballahyafayadayadayadablehblurblah

It was the kind of church thats 90 minutes long, but they close with the prayer tongue circle and they spout gibberish for another 30 minutes.

I HATED it. I hated it so much.

Nope. I wasn't raised religious. I went to church with some of my friends a handful of times, but I always hated it. I still vividly remember the look of utter disgust on the Sunday School teacher's face when I said I hadn't read the bible/didn't have my own. I was like eight years old at the time.

I tried multiple times over the years to give the whole church thing a fair shake even though I was a militant atheist by the time I was a teenager. During my senior year, some of my classmates invited me to a "revival" at their church and I had no idea what that entailed. They had some obvious con-artist in a crushed velvet suit and snakeskin boots talking about how he used to be a Satanist and led everyone in a fit of hysterical screaming and crying. Scared the shit out of me and I haven't been back to a church (outside of funerals and such) since.

Forced to.

As a kid, I was kept away from other schools of thought because my parents and grandparents made up my mind for me.

When I understood I was taught to believe these things, I felt dirty.

And this was long before I learned of ritual abuse, religious lobbying and tax exemptions for the church.

Yeah, my mom made us. Dad went along until I was 18 when he stopped so I stopped too. Mom didnt like that. She still goes, more than once a week. I got married in a Catholic Church, but I was upfront that I was already living with my now husband. It was you can marry us or not, I really dont care. We dont go, but my kids do to religion class. But I have raised them with the thought that the Bible is full of parables, not what actually happened.

Regularly until my twenties. I thought my church was okay. I just couldn't see how I belonged there or find much logic in the Bible. There are some stories in there that I like, that's about it.

I'm also surprised not many people spent more than a couple hours in church. We used to have two services occasionally. That's not including Sunday School.

i went to church every week unless i was sick until i was 20 years old.

then i realized that the church i went to was a giant scam so i stopped going.

now the only time i set foot in a church is if i'm with my family at Christmas because they're big on church.

sometimes i manage to weasel out of it though.
