Apparently it's gaucher's disease. She's missing an enzyme that helps in the production of red and white blood cells. Never heard of it before today. Figured it'd be something that would've come up on House or something.

Well from what I've read yes. There is that line of treatment. In severe cases they go for bone marrow transplants or spleen removal.

Right? If it gets bad enough the treatment is either bone marrow transplant or removing the spleen. Until then it's enzyme therapy and daily meds.

I'm sorry she has that, but yeah that's a lot better than cancer. I'm glad it sounds like she'll be ok.

A stem cell transplant is more common than you think. What's interesting is you basically have to get all your childhood immunizations again because you lose your immunity.
