I just obtained Gau and I honestly don't think I've had a single threat. In fact, I though thte Phantom Train was going to be a bigger threat but before I can even suplex it(still sad about that one), Shadow's relic allowed him to counter and I ended up one shotting it. I'm only lvl 20 which I figured was a good level to be at. I don't think I'm over leveled or anything O.o is there a point where things get difficult?

Also, Cyan's tragedy made me tear up a bit. Damn it...

The first five are generally considered the harder FF games. VI is when they became a lot easier.

I remember there was a mini boss in FFVII that was pretty damn hard. I think the first time I got to it, I ended up quitting because it was giving me that much trouble. THen again, I was young and knew very little of what materia did xD. Still, I assume the classic FF games were at least a little tough.

That sucks. All of the abilities are so easy that I don't even know if I want to use Terra because everyone else doesn't use MP(except Celes) and their attacks are pretty heavy and without limits.

FF6 in particular is much easier than the ones that came before it.

Use T-Edition mod to improve the difficulty.

It can be pretty easy, especially if you know what's abuseable, but there are a some encounters that will wreck you if you attempt them too early though.

Level 20 seems overlevelled for that point of the game. I think I was around level 12 there. That new Switch version lets you boost xp gains, you might have been using that?

Let's just say that the harder part of beating the game on the minimum possible levels is trying not to accidentally gain levels, not beating the fights.

I got stuck on that first mountain area for a long time the first time I played. I couldn't get past the boss, because I was a dumbass and didn't read the instructions properly for Sabin's skills. I thought I was supposed to do the button combo as he was trying to use the skill, meaning I wasn't inputting anything and was failing. Otherwise, I mostly found the game quite easy but I also grinded a ton.

6 is "easy" once you know its tricks and its overpowered characters (Edgar for instance is overpowered as heck for most of the first half of the game if you know to always use his tools). It was my first RPG though and I didn't find it particularly easy as a kid.

Yeah, I was able to buy his tools asap without realizing it and use his auto crossbow on everything. Sabin's aoe move as well(especially during his scenarios) and I put that relic for haste on Locke to have more chances for stealing.

I feel bad for Cyan because he hardly gets to do anything and Shadow just has to stand there and his counter relic and doggy counters really kick things up. Celes and Terra sorta become boring at that point.

I wish there were other ways to make it harder. It has multiple ways to make it easier but making it harder only has 1 feature I think. The .05 experience option

How about increased damage from enemies or more health to them? And lower health for your party. Make stores cost more. Stuff like that

It's really easy to break, but even if you don't break it, there aren't that many enemies that actually try to meaningfully trip you up.

This isn't like an SMT or an Etrian Odyssey. I don't think any FFs ever reached that level of interesting complexity or difficulty though.

Final Fantasy XII is pretty complex, but I don't know what you're comparing because I don't know those games. SMT kind of sounds like a Persona game, which can be pretty complex with the battle system at higher difficulties

Yeah, Cyan has one of the best personal storylines in 6, if not THE best.

It's really too bad that he's completely overshadowed in combat by Sabin and there's really no practical reason to put him on the team. :(

Unless you play with T Edition that removes the esper bonuses.

It's a VERY large increase to your damage, for magic at least. Like the difference between a level 30 Terra with her base magic and with 15 +2 magic levelups is going to be around 60-80% more spell damage. (The basic calculation for the scaling portion of magic damage is (Level * Magic Power * Spell Power / 32)). The scaling on Vigor is absolutely shit at normally achievably levels, though and can basically be ignored: ((Level * Level * Attack) / 256) * 3 / 2, where Attack goes up by 2 for every point of Vigor. A point of Vigor is worth about 1 more damage at level 10, about 4 damage at level 20, scaling with level^2.

Almost all the good attacks in FFVI are magic btw, including most Blitzes. Earrings on Sabin are immensely powerful early.

I wouldn't worry about it that much. Depending on the version of the game you're playing, there's ways to make some of your characters virtually invincible. (The final boss does still have Hyperdriver, which gets through basically everything, but for the most part you can become virtually impossible to kill.) There's also all sorts of broken shit with Gau and his rages that inflict status effects that don't have any possible immunity (for lategame) or just getting access to Stop early which breaks a lot of the early/midgame. Fixed Dice, Joker Doom RNG rigging, the Vanish status making magic bypass status immunities... there's just so many ways to absolutely break the game in half in FFVI that don't even involve stats or levels.
