I lived in Oregon and Washington for over half my life

Moved from PA to WA in 1991, and then was in that region til 2017. It's pretty good.

As someone who lives in Washington state, I have to say it sucks. The only reason Im still here is because no state income tax.

If you move to Alaska, they have no sales tax. And you get paid by the government once a year with something called a PFD.

It's terrible. As soon as I can snag a Green Card I'll be permanently the fuck out of BC so fast people will think I gained the ability to teleport.

So.how does their state function for public services then? They either need state income tax or sales tax for that.

There is still income tax. And other taxes. Cause I had to do my taxes recently but I didn't owe anything

The PFD is possible because of all the income the state gets from oil

The worst part is how short the days are in the winter and how long they are in the summer.

there are places you can avoid rain and clouds and the likes. Cant avoid the short days.

west portland was lovely in the 90s and 00s but now the entire metro is congested as hell

I visited Seattle when I was younger, also went to the San Juan Islands and whale watched. It was cool, the water is pristine.

I'm from the New England originally, I've lived in Georgia, but I might head out that way since my wife's family lives there.

I'm in Alaska now. The things that piss me off are ice that always makes me nervous about slipping, in the winter. I dont mind snow but I hate ice

And moose. Even in the city you have to always be keeping an eye out for moose. Just recently I've had a few close encounters right by my apartment building. One moose started to follow me. Was pretty scary

I kinda miss the rain in PNW. Maybe just cause I was there so long, I kinda have nostalgia for rainy days
