It has to be the right dose but it can subdue people effectively and not kill them. The problem usually is overdoses, but as long as its not toxic doses you should be fine. Its better than shooting bullets and actually killing people. And tazers don't always work.

More non-lethal methods would be better

Nothing fairytale about it. They had ample chances to fix their numerous problems. They opted not to. Now they don't get a say in it.

Yep, totally not lethal... Unless multiple officers all shoot, or the suspect already had other drugs in their system

Even ignoring everything else wrong with the idea, ketamine and opiates have a severe and incredibly deadly drug interaction. A significant portion of people would die in custody from heart stoppages.

You could give them pillows and there'd just be a massive increase in smothering deaths
