We know factually they do not engage with people using assault rifles so why do they have guns? Not to mention very hard to dissappear with modern tech. Officer saw the SUV stopped on the side of the highway, so he went to make sure the driver was okay. The driver got out of his car holding a rifle, so the officer shot him and waited for backup.
