Damn, top ten would've been nice for Zombie Land Saga. Still, I think it did pretty good! It's the top music anime, after all. Thanks for supporting it with me, Inviso.

I'm guessing most people here haven't seen it, so hopefully this inspires someone to check it out. It's an idol anime and has everything that goes with that, including occasionally iffy CGI performances. However, it's also a hilarious show with great characters, and it makes the most of its unique zombie premise. ZLS is an anime with a lot of heart.

@MartinFF7 thanks for being a reliable trade partner. Would you mind switching to Odd Taxi now?

Bah, that's a shame. Bad final 2 anyway, once TTGL and Mushishi got saved it was gonna be something I've watched going out. Sorry, ZLS was my 3rd fav remaining!

I'm seeing how the Odd Taxi run to the finals last year came to be, it's looking pretty good for another deep run now.

Sure thing Roba, sorry ZLS couldn't make it farther, everybody showing up today cutting down on H4 time definitely didn't help. Damn.

Im sorry roba. Today was a really busy day at work and I wasnt on top of my game.

So the top 10 has:

-1 past winner (the annual Baccano! depth run)
-4 past finalists (Mob Psycho 100, Monogatari, Odd Taxi, Steins;Gate)
-Each of the 4 "semifinalists" (3rd and 4th place) from the past two contests (Kaguya, TTGL, DBZ and S;G again)
-Fate/Zero and Mushishi as the two odd ones out. Personal best for both?

Fate/Zero has only made the top 20 twice - 19th/83 in SMFAS1, and 20th/100 in SMFAS5

Mushishi also has two top 20s - 12th/100 in SMFAS3 and 20th/60 in SMFAS9

Nice, I figured as much but didn't want to assume. F/Z floating by round by round without dedicated support (before Chaeix) makes that quite the run, looking good next round too with the S;G overflow.

Also never knew there were 83 series in the first contest, what an odd number...

Betting Odds for top 10

1) Mob Psycho 100 - 11/2 - Mob made the finals in something of an upset, it's currently essentially replicating the run it had at the time.
Start off as a low end priority that keeps escaping late, but then it picks up more and more people. Last time it had no chance against Death Note.
After Season 3? I think the show's quality is now firmly established and I'd favour it against a number of other series.

2) Steins;Gate - 7/1 - I think if it makes the finals, only DBZ beats it head to head. It's one of the standout shows of the decade. Top tier protag, great shipping, memeable clips, been watched by many, lot going for it.
But S;G always suffers from having savers on the more casual side of things. It was enough to land 3rd last go around and I can easily see it make the finals if things break right.
That and I almost always predict S;G to win it all at the start of the contest.

3) Dragon Ball Z - 8/1 - If DBZ makes the finals I think it wins, we're due a shonen win. The last victory for the demo came via Death Note.
DBZ would certainly be the most well know series to ever make the final. The only issue with it like S;G is that not everyone trades for it.
So it might drop out just due to lack of activity on that front.

4) Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann - 17/2 - Best chance we have at a Mecha show winning one of these. Yeah Code Geass landed 3rd, but it's not done anything since.
TTGL has killer eps, hype catchphrases with a super OST. If some of the other candidates trip up I can see it gaining momentum.

5) Kaguya-sama: Love Is War - 12/1 - Not performing as well as I was expecting by this stage. Are Rom Coms falling out of favour? They still haven't captured a proper win.
Haruhi has a lot of shipping, but I wouldn't call it a Rom Com. Kaguya's had years of strong showings, but it's been choking in these later rounds.
Season 3 was great and ended on a high, then you had the movie. This is about as good as it gets, because if they adapt anything else, you start covering weaker arcs.

6) Odd Taxi - 12/1 - Surprise hit of last year, was it a fluke? Apparently not. It's nice self contained Film Noir story with a good payoff. It also led to a number of people picking it up so if anything, it might be a stronger candidate than last year.
I've got it bottom half though, because I think too many potential finals opponent might be too difficult to ovewrcome.

7) Monogatari - 25/1 - The Monogatari script has been the same for a few years now. Does well through top 20, but then it runs into the problem where most people don't watch past the first few eps of Nisemonogatari.
the series has become somewhat of a mess to follow with confusing titles, debated watch orders and you gotta go through a lot of content to get the full experience.
It's a bit much to ask someone to commit and on top of that I don't even know if we have a streaming platform that shows everything.

8) Fate/Zero - 25/1 - I can no longer think about Fate without thinking Gacha.

9) Mushishi - 28/1 - Those sure are some consistently highly rated series you got there. As noted Mushishi has had some good runs in the past, but this is the first top 10 appearance for it.
I don't doubt the quality of the show one bit, but have enough people seen the show to carry to victory in a final?

10) Baccano - 28/1 - I just don't see a repeat winner happening. Still think Baccano can get very close to the finals, but it's a fairly stacked field of series that have gotten close before but fell short.

I think those trips needed to happen already & it's too late now, but maybe I'm underestimating things. The supporters from the run 2 years ago are on different priorities and there's a growing save gap... I'm not sure where the extra TTGL saves are going to come from!

I've got Steins;Gate and Odd Taxi in the final three but I'm not sure about the third series there... I will root for the continuing Mushishi run!

Edit: Oh while I'm posting @MysteriousStan I'm through episode 9 (didn't watch any for a while but now I'm cruising through multiple eps a day), and "the choice of Steins;Gate" keeps coming up in any version of subs and even if I switch to the english dub (which is awful, man I'm glad I stuck to subs on this). Am I eventually going to get "the will of Steins;Gate" or am I doomed to the weak "choice" for the entire series...?

Loving the progress! I'd say if you're enjoying it at this point you're probably gonna enjoy the series as a whole. 2nd half is much better than the first imo. As for this specific question...I'm honestly not sure haha. Could be that "will" is a VN thing but I never noticed the difference tbh.

Down to just one show I haven't seen which is Kaguya. Think I'd rank them...

Though to be honest it's pretty fuzzy in the middle there. It's been so long since I've watched Mushishi but I remembered being floored by it. Same with Bacanno. TTGL and DBZ are good fun for sure and I should rewatch TTGL at some point. I'm one of those people who've only seen Bakemonogatari and I did like it a lot but it was hard enough finding the episodes back in the day that I never watched past that. Definitely really like everything left that I've seen though and probably wouldn't hate on any of these if they won even if I'm pulling hard for Steins;Gate!
