Civil war? Formally split the country in two? Abolish the federal government and give states complete authority to create their own perfect liberal or conservative society (which is basically a less messy version of splitting the country in two)? Or do we just keep things the way they are and this is life and thats it (just an endless culture war with flip flopping small victories on each side that constantly get undone by each other)?

My therapist cant give me an answer, maybe CE can!

As much as id like this, I think the reason it hasnt happened is that its basically a game of chicken between the two main parties. Either Democrats or Republicans would need to splinter off a large chunk their voter base into this third party thats either a left leaning or right leaning alternative, which means the party that doesnt do that can hold firm and clean up in every election with their numbers intact. The only way it could really happen is if this third party does somehow appeal to both sides and siphon voters from both, but a centrist party would inevitably get criticisms of bah youre just a fence sitter who wont get anything done! since nowadays it seems like if youre not all the way left or right, youre the enemy. The other question would be which aspects of the left or right do they inherit? Are they fiscally conservative but socially liberal or the other way around?

Id like to see a viable third party but I think theres just too many variables to make it a success.

Dems need to unite. There are big wigs in the Democratic party who are just as selfish and shit as Republicans. They need to drop their shit and all unite together to stand a chance. No Hillary corrupting Bernies chances type shit.

Poor people need to unite.

Voting system needs to change. No voting for best of bad bunch, no more no more electoral college, etc. Multiple votes, multiple candidates per party, multiple parties.

I hate to break it to you, but people disagree. There is not a party you could create that could win the votes of "teachers are queering our students" conservatives and teachers' unions. There is no party that could band together environmentalists and climate change deniers.

The sentiment of "we all just need to band together and unite" sounds nice, but always pops on the pointed question of "for what?"

I honestly won't be surprised if there's another big terrorist attack on US, and people will rally together for the elimination of that terrorist group.

Ive thought about whether or not we (sadly) need a false flag to unite us, but I think even with that thered now be division over it.

Lets say an evil middle eastern terrorist group attacked us again, maybe it isnt even a false flag and its legit. I bet thered be debates over whether we deserved it based on whatever we might have done to their people in the past, and also debates over whatever domestic racism comes from it like after 9/11. So I dont even think a common enemy would unite us nowadays, especially in this age of social media where there are bots and trolls that spur division over fucking anything and everything because arguments drive traffic on the apps.

What do you want to accomplish with this unity? What goals is this division standing in the way of?

What reality do you live in? The subsequent course of actions was debated then, and still is now. To the point where Bush Vs Kerry was extremely close

Omg this is hilarious.

A big turn from the two party system, which would likely require a constitutional amendment, so good luck getting that passed. Make the House be elected pasted on the number of votes they receive, nationwide rather then by district, and allowing people to vote for as many different candidates as they like, though they can only give one per candidates. The rule on voting for as many candidates as they like should be applied to the Senate and Presidential elections, but the presidential election should be nationwide, and based purely on popular vote.

The complete and total elimination of any and all conservative ideology.

That's about it.

From what I've seen, it's just traditionalists who wants to oppress their ways onto others. You can live however you want but you shouldn't try to hinder progression. They think their livelihood is being taken away to some large extent.

I would think getting accurate representation would be a good start.

We have to political multiply

Get money out of politics. Law, maybe amendment, that the feds provide funding to candidates that can reach whatever threshold in signatures or something. No fundraising, no individual finance, no PACs.

Make another law or amendment that news reporting on politics cannot have paid advertisers. Allow subscription fees only.

I think that gets us half way there.
