The hell? I just now kinda realized it. I suppose I can buy one myself if I really need to. But I hardly use a microwave anywaysdoes anyone else here live without one?

The only time I really use one is when I defrost frozen bread.

Air fryers killed microwaves.

All you need is that and any kind of stove to cook really.

Yeah I have one of those toaster ovens that can also air fry/bake/roast. And this house has 2 separate ovens too. Gas range. Will have a grill outside.

I guess I dont need a microwavebut it is very convenient in a pinch.

The last house we were living in didn't have one so someone bought us one... and when that eventually broke, I went without one until we moved to the new place... Which sucked since I had to rely on ordering food since I can't cook...

Because fresh bread goes bad within a few days and freezes very well.

I dont buy that preservative filled crap that sits on store shelves. Fresh, locally baked bread is all I consume

My house also didn't have a microwave / a place to put the microwave (like normally, the microwave is above the stove, but there's no place for it). Had to buy a counter-top one and put it somewhere.

frying an egg takes like 5 min max and tastes infinitely better

I do a fair amount of baking and def use a microwave to melt butter. Thats a good point. Luckily I have my toaster oven/air fryer that could probably do it fairly quick

I'd be careful melting butter in an air fryer. It's a pain to clean if you aren't giving it all your attention. It takes butter a a minute ir less to melt in the microwave. You'd have to keep pulling it out to check with an air fryer.

I don't understand the problem? Considering a microwave can be bought cheaply and you don't need specialists to lug it in and install it for you.

Definitely not saying get one for just butter. Totally helpful for a lot of things. I have 2. One above my stove and one in my basement. The one in the basement is for stuff like popcorn, reheating food I take down there, heating pads, and other things. The one in the kitchen is for everything else related to cooking. I warm up tortilla shells, melt butter, defrost meat, keep things warm, soften butter, quickly heat up some water, ramen. There's tons of things it could be used for and they are cheap to get.

Honestly the biggest barrier would be where to put it. Itd have to sit on a counter top and this new kitchen is on the smaller side. Gotta have room for my Nespresso and toaster oven

This is my biggest use for one. We cook large meals on the stove/oven with plenty of leftovers. Easy to pop a plate in the microwave quick the next day.

Also to boil water quicker than on the stove for things like tea and coffee.

Electric kettles are great, but with North American (at least US) power being a lower voltage than in Europe they're much less efficient than a microwave.

Nespresso? Have no idea how people can drink that, but you do you.

You ever try coffee from Nespresso? Its honestly really good. It naturally creates crema through the brew process. Everyone I know whos ever tried it has been obsessed.

Haven't no, I'll admit I assumed they were not significantly better than a Keurig or whatever shit.

Either way my $30 Aeropress makes a great cup and I'm not willing to spend $3-800 on a machine that uses pods. (Which Nestle can say don't harm the environment, but the amount of people that properly recycle pods is massively small compared to those that just pitch them.)

Keurigs are trash and Nespresso is actually great quality. I use mine when Im pressed for time or want to make some form of a latte. But most of the time I use it to brew regular coffee, not espresso.

My Nespresso was also nowhere close to $300 lol. Think it was like $120.

Hmm, okay. Still more than I'd want to spend on one anyways. But I do retract the initial statement about them.

If I'm lazy in the morning and don't feel like making coffee I'll just make tea instead. Much less effort intensive.

Generally speaking tho I like the "ritual" of sorts involved with making coffee and would feel as if I was losing that with a machine.
