I am out of ideas. I think someone who is not nationally known but has a solid record could win.

I am hoping Biden will concede the candidacy to someone who can bring in votes for Senators and Congresspersons. We need the Senate and the House. We also need the Presidency.

Joe is going to get reelected. Desatan has no chance of beating Trump (he will fall apart the very minute they're on stage and have a debate), and more and more people have been further driven away from Trump in the years since the last election.

I really don't like the idea of Pritzker because both him and Rauner basically bought themselves into office...that and Illinois has a history of criminal politicians (as in ones who got tried, convicted, and sentenced)

at the same time, I would love to see the butthurt in my old state for a Pritzker candidacy

Illinois has a history of holding our criminal politicians accountable by locking their asses up while other states pussy foot around it and let them go.

Half of Dems already didn't want Biden to run again. DNC could whisper to MSNBC to start cranking out puff pieces on a person literally no one has ever heard of (could be a fictional person) and they'd be leading in the polls.

Why does Biden need to do this?

Because it is not enough for people to support a candidate: they need to vote for the candidate.

The candidate has to motivate people to vote.

For instance in Chicago's runoff election for mayor 37% voted.

All the dedicated Republicans came out and voted for Vallas. Bernie Sanders came to Chicago twice to bring out the vote and people went door to door on their blocks.

Vallas spent lots of money and reached out and appealed to the apolitical. Haha they admired him but being apolitical they do not vote.

Brandon Johnson motivated people to vote.

The Democratic candidate has to motivate people to go door to door for them. If Biden wins but loses Congress, then history is just going to repeat itself.

How many people were thinking of a President Biden in May, 2011?

Dem apparatus would be entirely behind an incumbent two-term VP and a successful term of office is transformative.

But the problem is nobody likes Kamala Harris and people only tolerate the Biden presidency because it was better than the alternative.

Sure, and I'm not saying that Harris would be the right candidate in 2028, but barring a catastrophe that likely sinks Dem chances that year anyway, she'll have to be the prohibitive frontrunner for the Dem nomination given how much institutional backing that she'll get from the party and assorted officials that don't want to burn party bridges, even if she's a Hillary 2.0.

Who liked Clinton and who was really passionate about Biden? And yet Clinton won the nomination easily in 2016 despite what Sanders fans would tell you and still won the popular vote, and Biden likewise won the nomination handily once the center consolidated and set a record for most votes received.

Harris's supposed toxicity seems overblown to me, Biden supporters would likely back her barring a disaster for the administration, black Democrats would rally around her in all liklihood, and most major Dem alternatives probably wouldn't want to risk retribution by challenging an incumbent VP.

And the success of both the runs of Hillary 1.0 highlights why that would be an incredibly poor move on the part of the party.

And before you start with "but the popular vote," it doesn't matter. The popular vote counts for jack shit in the current system, so let's not pretend otherwise. Either win electorally or get the fuck out of the way, because it doesn't matter if 90% of California and New York vote for you

You don't think someone effectively running as third Biden term and with eight years of executive experience would have policy and experience benchmarks? Hell, that was basically the Biden campaign, to harken back to the Obama years and more or less offer a return to that.

I think Pritzker has what it takes to combat the Republican Party in this day and age. Attitude and policy to combat them I should say.

Whitmer would also be great. They need someone who can whoop the GOPs ass and these two governors have thoroughly trounced the GOP in their respective states.
