What's with the satisfaction of "kids today just don't remember X"? There's shit we don't remember, and there's shit that our kids kids are not going to remember too. Such a dumb vague superiority complex. You're not special just because you're old

In this particular case, it could be about the younger generation not understanding what the big deal is about them going on strike.

This isn't really a "I used to have to walk to school in the snow!" situation, or "You kids don't understand what it was like without cellphones and internet!"

This is more of a "how bad can TV really get with no writers?"

Meh. I watched TV then and it was kind of sad to see shortened seasons like S4 of Lost, the Office, and House (around 13 episodes or so). But overall they were fine. With streaming not being tied to the calendar, we won't notice much difference at all

Looking up the sticking points between each side, I can't see this strike ending any time soon. The writers want an industry wide ban on AI tools, a guaranteed minimum number of writers over a guaranteed minimum number of months on all projects, even if there's no actual work for them, a pay raise, a reversal of decoupling the writer role from the producer role, and syndication pay for streaming.

It killed Heroes. Season 2 was bad and it never recovered.

The network killed heroes. The original writers intended every season to be an all new cast of heroes and they forced them reuse the season 1 cast so they tried writing for it but then went on strike which made it so that a plot that was never intended to exist had to be made by people with no idea what to do with it causing an abrupt ending in season 2.

Had they stuck to the original writers intention it could have survived.

The original plan was going to have Walt rig a shotgun to thr basement stairs where...can't think of his name...Crazy 8s? Is in the basement at Jesse's house. That was then going to shoot Walt Jr.

Thankfully the strike happened and that went a different direction and we got a GOAT show out of it.

Its so ironic because 15 years ago when the writer's strike happened I had literally no shows to watch besides Lost and we all know how that turned out. Yet now that I do have shows I no longer have the patience to sit through them I'm just watching dumb YouTube videos

Yeah unlike 2007 when there were literally just like 3 shows to watch, and only cable TV to watch them on if you didn't have DVDs, nowadays we have so many shows and ways to view them that this writer's strike could last for a year and we still wouldn't catch up to the shows. I hope they're successful because they honestly don't have the leverage they had 20 years ago. Gen z aren't watching shows they're too busy doing dumb tiktok videos and dancing videos and watching themselves. Only boomers and up to millennials at best are still watching traditional TV shows

Gonna be interesting, giving they're still on that rotating hosts thing, but this really won't go down like last time. In 2007, streaming wasn't really a thing like it is now, YouTube was still young, & alternatives weren't as available. Now? You've got a myriad of YouTube/Twitch/TikTok/Vtuber creators; anime is mainstream enough it's not unfathomable that "normal" people would know what Demon Slayer, Jojo, & Attack on Titan are; K-dramas & Squid Game have made Korean productions very high profile; & most of the major streaming services have sizable backlogs of content to ride out a storm, until alternatives can be finalized.

I really think 16 years has put rose tinted glasses on people that remember Heroes fondly. It started really good and was hype throughout s1, but it definitely fizzled by end of the first season to be honest. I remember being super disappointed by the s1 finale and that was way before the writer's strike.

I'm one of the few who stuck with the show all the way to the end, and I actually kinda liked some of season 4 but only because they brought in T-bag from prison break and he was perfect for a villain role on heroes.

Leno retired, Conan took over. Ratings dipped as expected for a new host, Leno regretted retiring and used that to worm his way back in. NBC also severely neutered Conan's brand of comedy for the 11pm show, so by the end he was probably sick of it all anyway.
