Why do people spend money on such a stupid thing

Reddit is just garbage in general. Redditors don't value factual information, they value confidence of the poster. So you'll see ideas spread around that are complete bullshit just because they saw it in a post with a lot of karma and awards. And you can say something that is indisputably true, and people will pick fights with you and harass you, just because it's Reddit and people can hide behind a veneer of anonymity.

And yet I still use it every day.

Reddit used to be a lot better when it was more niche. Now it's the same tired jokes and bad opinions you see on Twitter and Facebook.

Reddit has always been trash and I have used the site since 2011.

People use real money to get worthless internet coins which are spent on awards you can give people if you like something they post or comment. Enough coins to give one gold costs $2. Enough to give one platinum costs $6. It's a little cheaper if you buy in bulk.

You do get some coins if you are the recipient of certain awards, so not everyone who gives awards spends money to do it, but some do.

You probably shouldn't care.

best thing about reddit is sorting by controversial and internally screaming at how many people have absolutely insane morals and beliefs. reddit has probably contributed significantly to my lack of faith in the human race.

I use reddit and cnn even though they're both left wing propaganda sites, but that's only because there's no where else to go.

At least reddit has pockets of conservative/moderate subreddits. I used to use the politics board, but it's gotten so bad I couldn't use it anymore.
