Would you compare this to the sign hanging above Auschwitz or would you consider it to even be a similar sentiment?

I come to B8 with this because out of all the boards I visit, it generally seems the most reasonable.
https://gizmodo.com/david-zaslav-warner-bros-discovery-streaming-wga-strike-1850408939

A topic on another board had a poster say something to the effect of "I'm not sure quoting the sign hanging above Auschwitz is good PR." I was confused to what was meant, read the article and couldn't find a source on him "quoting the sign above Auschwitz." I responded with a "?" and got attacked by a couple posters over it.

I just wanted an outside opinion on the matter. I can post the link to the topic for context if needed.

This was pretty much one of the responses I got from someone in the topic. It honestly just confused me more as I wasn't sure what they were getting at and they wouldn't elaborate.

I don't understand what's confusing about this even though the comparison is obviously tenuous

Because the context of the quote is what would bring the production companies and the writers together, im not sure how that compares to a slogan that was placed for the purpose to mock and essentially ridicule victims of a concentration camps.

Right, so you understand that the connection is obviously pretty tenuous, but I don't see why you don't get why someone would poke fun at it having some Arbeit Macht Frei vibes

I understand why someone would do so because in all honesty fuck CEO's in general, but I really didn't think it was unreasonable for me to question if he actually quoted the sign in the article or if it was meant to be a bit of an exaggeration based on what was actually said. Which is what I did and got attacked for.

I think your mistake was responding with a question mark instead of more clearly asking for clarification (I'm assuming that that was your verbatim response since you put it in quotes). In the current internet environment a "?" response can be interpreted as "I acknowledge and actively disagree with your stance" rather than "I don't understand your stance".

They aren't the same thing. One says people will come back for love of the game, and the other was a cynical phrase for people being condemned to slave labor and death. The CEO might have been clueless, but this strike isn't exactly about people being rounded up and sent to die.

You probably should have understood what they meant. That said, was the original poster joking or serious? If he was just making a (admittedly dumb) joke that might explain their response. If he was actually serious though thats even dumber. Basically textbook Godwins Law.

I'm not sure, they never responded to the topic at all after their initial post. I was responded too by other people in the topic.

Yes yes, I've already agreed that just responding with a question mark was probably not the best way to actually get across what I meant, I just thought it did at the time.

Studios being greedy is obviously not comparable to the freaking holocaust, but he sure as hell should have chosen a better set of words. I get that some people are unaware of the connection, but a man in his position almost certainly knew and if he didn't then he needs a team of people to choose his words for him in the future. Even if I believed he didn't know it's still disgusting that a man with that much money thinks the worker ants need to get back in line because they love their jobs. Job satisfaction doesn't pay the bills, you worthless POS.

While were on the subject of the intent and meaning of words, you cant be gaslit by strangers in a comment section. Gaslighting is meant to refer to a form of manipulation by somebody close to you in order to make you question your own experiences/memories/judgement. A lot of what people now call gaslighting is just regular lying, deception, or trolling

I mean aside from the fact that the English language is constantly evolving and words consistently take on new meanings, yes. But I understand what you're trying to say.
