The plot and worldbuilding is surprisingly coherent and has p cool action with well integrated kart section.

Also koji kondo actually composed the track and it it slapped. Not surprising when i saw his name in the credit

I found the references overwhelming and unsubtle to the point they were getting in the way of the movie's ability to tell a story. The references seemed like a prioritywhich I guess was the idea since they may have wanted to swing the pendulum in the other direction of bad game adaptations but in doing so it also left me thinking I don't want that either (being so invested in staying true to the source material that the actual filmmaking suffers).

That was my worry but the "fanservice" doesnt detract too much, like it was so obvious but isn't too forced.

I loved it For me, it was a great movie all around And I enjoyed the references It wasnt too much for me. And between me, my roommate, and my cousin, we all caught some references that the others missed
