That budget is astronomical, but Disney will he fine. Little Mermaid is going to do gangbusters. If it doesn't THEN they may have a rough time. But guardians is doing great for em

Also. RT is irrelevant at this point. Uf the audience likes it it will make money.

Bur really all of these shows already flopped and some of them I didnt even know existed

Guardians is just breaking even for them, not great. Quantumania already lost Disney $100+ million. Little Mermaid has a $200 million budget and is tracking to open the same as Quantumania, not good at all w/ a release packed summer. Elemental is opening the same day as The Flash, I doubt this will be the movie that breaks Pixar out of the slump of consecutive bombs since before Covid.

The Marvels has another outrageous budget after being pushed back multiple times for multiple rounds of reshoots, and there is no way that movie does any better than Quantumania.

Mandalorian Season 3 had way less viewers than previous seasons, Disney+ lost 2.2 million subs in Q4 2022 and 4 million subs in Q1 2023.

Reece Thompson played a poor kid in Titanic that didnt get on the lifeboats. He got one line, something like "what should we do now, mom?".
He still gets a royalty check every year at around $200-300.

I've been saying this since Iger was brought in to cut $5.5 billion last year. Which is almost double what Zaslav was working with. It's pretty obvious that others were gonna and are following in his footsteps. This is the type of stuff that happens during recessions.

Those sub losses were because of India losing Cricket.

The actual losses for Disney+ are $5 billion over the past 5 quarters. Which means they waste a lot of money creating shit that doesn't help them in the end.

I really really want shit like this to be an eye opener for people to realize how important physical media is.

Like, its one thing if you dont really care and are just a casual TV / movie watcher, I get that there are plenty of people (most likely the majority) who dont give enough of a shit, but Id really like it if more people came to appreciate actually owning what you like instead of perpetually renting.

As always Jim Sterling was ahead of the curve on this one. Youd think the age of digital distribution would ensure preservation is easier than ever, but as we saw with P.T., the opposite seems to be true.

Isnt Google also talking about removing videos from inactive accounts? If so, its a good idea to save a copy of whatever you watch because theres no guarantee it will be there forever.

Im not going to say how to do that. Ironically, youd be better off Googling it.

Indeed.

I've been making a stink about that for years now. For this exact reason.

When I can find them, I pick up the physical copies of my favorite shows/movies. You can't trust that they will ever be around due to these types of practices by these companies.

And people wonder why I am a proponent in the other topic about the Writers' strike and Actors' (potential) strike going tull force but not having the studios nor the workers budge an inch, putting them all in lock for several years. This push to have content for content's sake and then not caring about the preservation of that content is just ludicrous from my perspective. If you aren't going to treat your content with the reverence and respect that it deserves, then quit making so much of it.

Introducing money/capitalism into art in the first place was a huge mistake from my perspective.

It takes up server space, but the biggest reason is that they are doing this is because of the tax write offs. Streaming companies are basically valued on the size of their library of movies/shows. By removing a bunch of movies/shows that no one watches and acknowledging they are worthless, their streaming library shrinks and now it is worth $1.5 billion less.

They now have this $1.5 billion loss that they can use to offset their total business revenue, lowering their taxes. US Corporate tax rate is 21%, so Disney just saved $315 million on Federal taxes they no longer have to pay. Their headquarters are in California, which has an additional state tax rate of 8.84%, which is another $133 million they no longer have to pay for state taxes. Granted Disney is a multinational company, their tax situation is probably a lot more complicated than this, but this is the gist of it.

Damn, that is a massive list. I know I said it before already, but it is insane that dumping content you produce is in any way beneficial. The system feels broken. Hope the writers strike does something about this. If I was an actor, I'd want the actor's guild to get involved too. It would be really shitty to be in one of these shows and get dumped.

Different topic, but Zaslav dumping shows onto FAST services is such BS. If you want to put shows there, that's fine, but I pay a premium for streaming services to see things w/o ads. I kinda hate that I still have HBO Max, but HBO still is putting out great stuff.

Its going to do way better than quantumania international. Like exponentially better.

Elemental is opening the same day as The Flash, I doubt this will be the movie that breaks Pixar out of the slump of consecutive bombs since before Covid.

Elementals only needs to be a meager success bit juries out on that.

The Marvels has another outrageous budget after being pushed back multiple times for multiple rounds of reshoots, and there is no way that movie does any better than Quantumania.

Nah, it will. The first captain marvel did way better than any of the ant man movies and has several characters coming off some well liked or to be well liked properties. If secret invasion hits they'll be fine.

Mandalorian Season 3 had way less viewers than previous seasons, Disney+ lost 2.2 million subs in Q4 2022 and 4 million subs in Q1 2023.

Which they are going to alleviate by means of these cuts and consolidations, ahsoka is going to be massive and skeleton crew will probably do well.
