Seeing people you grew up with all happy in loving relationships and living life on fancy holiday's. It's honestly soul destroying and self sabotaging to compare other people's lives with our own. Knowing some of us are in the same spot we was a year ago and the year before that, lonely and depressed whilst everyone seem's to have it together. It does represent a microcosm of someone's life and not the bigger picture but regardless, I feel that social media is more detrimental than beneficial to the average consumer as it can be impactful to your mental health.

You also shouldn't forget that a lot of these people are in horrible financial situations.

Being perma banned from Facebook a few years ago was honestly great for me.

ye there's more than meets the eye but even on the surface level it appears they have better lives, at least by contrast to the lost and the lonely.

I wish I was banned tbh to resist it's temptation, out of sight out of mind as they say. It's all downhill from the moment you start looking at other people's profile's. Even worse when it's someone you knew who was seemingly in a worse position than you then all of a sudden is now happily married with an attractive woman. People only showcase this aspect of their lives, it's essentially a self proclamation of status above others.

No one's forcing you to stalk your ex on facebook tc.

I personally think CE is no wear near as bad. I don't even know anyone here personally and no one is really posting their vacations or family time here.

That's why it stings that much more I reckon because Facebook connects you with people you grew up with. Even if your not best friends with someone from school, it still hurts to see their life by comparison, reminding us of our failings in life. For me as a self confessed lonely introvert, social media is hazardous to my mental health. I've never even had a proper girlfriend, flings yes but not a proper meaningful relationship. I think for most women it's easier to seek that validation but a man of perceived low status is frowned upon.
