Was inpatient for 8 nights

Made some friends that Ill never forget. It was also nice not having to plan meals at all.

the one i work at is long term abd basically a slightly nicer jail. patients cant go outside without permission kind of thing. we try to keep them constantly busy with activities or else they start acting up. staffing is a constant problem because these patients really act up and get violent. i had a box of supplies thrown at my face ...luckily didnt break anything. some of the patients are a trip. one of them posed as a dr and convinced a nurse to give another patient the wrong medication which caused a lot of....issues.

i try to be empathatic but a lot of these people are truly hard to deal with

As a visitor and as a patient, yes.

Yeah but it was in high school part of my Psychiatry class practice.

Yeah, it's a tough job. Some patients I would imagine are hard to deal with, and through no fault of their own, and one can get annoyed and on top of that feel bad about it too... because it's not really their fault.

Tough all around job I wouldn't really want.

My family has a history of being admitted to mental health facilities my grandfather was admitted for "melancholy"

Deranged masturbation is when you spend an hour trying to find that one video but you start going soft so you have to really really work it

pay is below average. im mainly doing it for office experience, no degree needed for my admin position

For work

yes i had a breakdown. im better now. it was quite ok the food was great i made 1 friend there which was nice but i moved to a different section so i only saw her at the school bit oh yeah i was 13 when i went so i had class there. staff were mostly good and nice the beds were uncomfortable tho ngl. i know younger based mental institutions are usually considered nicer than the adult ones so i cant say about adult ones cos ive never been.
oh yeah heres a thing that happened that creeped me out a male staff member watched me sleep sitting on the chair and i woke up at god knows what time at night and then he just left after realising i was awake. spooky. idk what that was about...

Yes, when I was 15. Rough stuff.

i worked in the adolescent wing of one like a year after highschool when i was in college but the patients were there for substance issues. i subbed a couple of times in the behavioral wing which had kids with mental health issues but i was working overnight at that time and it was p chill.

one of the harder parts of working in a mental hospital is covering your ass from false accusations. one coworker got falsey accused of breaking a patients arm when he wasnt in the same room as them. all of these are taken seriously and he had to get moved out of that unit for a couple of weeks. it happens all the time, you have to make sure youre where the cameras are when youre near patients because theyll accuse you of anything. theres a childrens unit ive never worked on at my campus but nobody wants to work there, they call the patients rights hotline everyday and accuse staff of random shit. i heard the kids are even more difficult to work with too, very violent and belligerent.

Yes, I'm a social worker so I would go to mhi's to meet with potential residents for our hab homes. Honestly they are a lot like what you see on TV, at least the good ones.

I have. But not as a patient, I worked there. We were there to keep them in line. If someone got violent we would wrestle them to the ground and take them to a room where they could be strapped to a bed and sedated.

Yep was in for 2 weeks. Greatest decision I ever made. Learned so much in that 2 weeks and it literally saved my life.

what did you learn though?

I had asked for a Pepsi, just one Pepsi and my mom wouldn't giv it to me.

I've been as staff. Lots of sitting and looking at people for hours on end.

Stress management was big. Also hearing the stories of other patients during classes was very eye opening. And really it took me out of my world for 2 weeks which by itself was huge. And I was able to get treated for things I neglected for years.
