My brother got an electric Traeger grill+smoker (thats also wifi?) that uses an electric element to grill. We've been here for 45 minutes+ waiting for this thing to get to 225 lol that doesn't even consider the time it took to do the pellets. we're making porterhouses. I would have had these things done by now on my propane grill smh.

Idk wtf is going on. They had to "build" the grill when it was shipped so I dunno if they fucked up but we've been waiting here for almost two hours at 225 and the steaks are at 105. Idk wtf he did wrong cuz this is not how a grill should function ever lmao

One of the pitfalls of electric heating appliances, they have to power down every so often... so they don't overheat. LOL

This shit was like a 6 hour grill from priming the pellets to getting the steaks off the grill. Absolutely insane. Finally got them off the grill. The steaks look really good but I could do this in 20-25 minutes on a propane grill and get a way better crust. Electric sucks lol

Have you tried asking it nicely to power correctly?

I think the problem was that he was using the Traeger app and it determined the heat for the recipe. But we think the app glitched and wasn't functioning correctly. Just some real dumb unnecessary shit. The steaks came out surprisingly good though. Rare, very even, decent enough crust. Just think I could do it eye ball it better on a gas grill.

I ran a natural gas line to my grill years ago and changed the orifices in it. I legit make bratwurst, burger, or grilled chicken at least once every other week year round ever since. Love sitting out on the porch this time of the year near sunset enjoying a beer and watching the dog run around with the smell of cooking meat on the grill.

I'm not going to pretty electric grills or awesome or anything, but that issues isn't with the fact it's electric.

This, sounds like your friend got a stinker or the app sucks. From a technical standpoint there's no reason an electric grill won't work, we've been using electric heating elements for decades

120. I tested the outlet afterward too. It's possible that he got a lemon or he fucked up along the way somewhere. But it took way too long to heat up.

Also I tried to get him to stop using the fucking app but he wouldn't lol its controlled by a knob and an led screen without the app. It all seems so unnecessary.

The electric element is just a little part that is used to light the pellets. The pellets generate the heat/flavor.

But he's complaining the chicken is taking forever to warm up due to it being electric.

Btw, could be an airflow issue. The electric coil is responsible for igniting the pellets but without good airflow, things won't circulate as they should.

Did you build it yourself or get it pre-assembled?

Also, instead of spending $1700 on a grill, you could've got an awesome $400 barrel grill and used lumpwood charcoal.

Tbqh it sounds like you were using it wrong or set it up improperly.

Probably wasn't fired up right, but it takes like 15-20 minutes to reach proper heat anyway. Traeger is one of those "pay for a name" brands imo, I had one, had problems with it, went with another brand that reviewed well called ZGrills and it's been a lot more reliable, consistent and overall better.

Monitor grill temps and food temps so you don't have to keep going outside to check on it.
I don't have a phone app for any of my grills or smokers, but I do have a BBQ controller and a separate bluetooth thermometer. Makes it super fucking easy.

Yeah, and pellet levels. If you are smoking something for like 30 hours, it can alert you when you need to fill the hopper again, or when temperature is dropping or there is an issue. That way you don't gotta constantly check on it.

Yeah that was definitely something malfunctioning. Electric grills are not that bad lol

The app doesn't help with short cooks like steaks and burgers, it helps for when you're using the smoker for hours on end.

Have you also changed out any old pellets. That was the issue with mine why it was chugging and lagging behind

Yeah, it's some pretty handy stuff. Even if not opting for a full blown electric grill/smoker, it changes the whole game to at least have a wireless thermometer
