"Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) proclaimed he would reverse many of the Biden administration's border policies and declare a national emergency over the crisis at the U.S. southern border on his first day in office if elected president. During his presidential announcement on Wednesday, the governor said he would "stop this insanity once and for all," saying he would bring back the "Remain in Mexico" program that was established during former President Donald Trump's term."

"If I were president, then I would reverse everything [President Joe] Biden is doing," DeSantis told Twitter CEO Elon Musk. "We will declare a national emergency on day one, construct a border wall, reimplement Remain in Mexico, and deal with the cartels that are trafficking people and fentanyl to our country. We cant allow these criminal organizations to continue poisoning our population. Were going to stop this insanity once and for all on day one," he added.

DeSantis signed an "anti-illegal immigration" bill earlier this month requiring businesses to use "E-Verify" for any company that has more than 25 employees. It also imposes penalties for people who employ illegal immigrants and enhances penalties for human trafficking. The comments come shortly after the Trump era policy Title 42 expired, leaving looser immigration policies in its place. Title 42 allowed the United States to deport immigrants that entered the country illegally, citing the prevention of the spread of COVID-19 as its reason."
