I wouldn't call that a requested feature. Swimming underwater sucks in games like these (well, pretty much all games, really). I don't even like the surface swimming we have...

But behind on everyone else due to my work schedule

But I just did the first dungeon (wind)
The lead up to the dungeon was also fun with how vertical it all was. The dungeon itself was interesting but reminded me a lot of Botw dungeons.
The boss made it worth it again tho, especially since the final hit was delivered by me falling out of the air after I took damage and I just stumbled through his weak point.

Edit: Btw I do remember liking that for Skyward Sword they just drowned an area to call it a new underwater section.

BotW already improved the execution of some of Skyward Sword's ideas, TotK could've done the same with the swimming! (I also liked the idea of drowning the wood to make the water level, but the fish notes thing was not good)

Tadtones is the worst part of any 3D Zelda game.

The problem with swimming in most games is how slow it is compared to other forms of movement. Considering how the rest of BotW/TotK work, I doubt they would've been exceptions.

I also just finished that dungeon today as my 1st one. I think I had more fun with the climb up than the actual dungeon. Boss was fine but nothing special.

Finally talked to the science girl back at Lookout Landing again and, yeah, it's kind of funny when you've already uncovered 98% of the Depths already.

I'm 180 hours in, all caves done, all shrines, all lightroots, all main quests, all side adventures, all cutscenes, 2 side quests left, and I just beat the game! Also 360 koroks found but I won't finish that.

(Finally I can read this thread lol)

Absolute masterpiece, brought me to tears ~5 times, usually due to game mechanics I couldn't believe they implemented. Either my new #1 or #2 favorite game of all time.

I'd definitely put it above BOTW, mostly because the combat doesn't feel like a waste of resources in this game. You're guaranteed to come out ahead by picking up monster horns, which you have infinite space for, and are basically the weapons themselves (the base of a weapon doesn't matter that much, just what you fuse onto 'em!).

I think the only thing BOTW does better is the inside of puzzle shrines. The shrines were much more silly and creative in BOTW, you didn't know what you were gonna get! In here, they're usually very simple/short tutorials of one mechanic each time. Also the number of Rauru's Blessing shrines is absurd in TOTK, what a waste of loading screen time.

Of course, the combat shrines are 100x better in TOTK, admittedly.

---

OK here is my ranking of the types of repeated playable content in the game, from best to worst:

1-Caves
2-Temples (quests before you get inside)
3-Temples (once you're inside)
4-Combat shrines
5-Yiga (anything yiga related)
6-Temple bosses
7-Great fairy quests
8-Wells
9-Outdoor minigames
10-Penn quests
11-Puzzle shrines
12-Depths (exploring, mining, lightroots)
13-Monster control squads
14-Labyrinths
15-Addison
16-Outdoor bosses (gleeoks, hinoxes, etc.)
17-Pictures for stables
18-Koroks (non-escorts)
19-Geoglyphs
20-Koroks (escorts)
21-Green crystal escorts

Hmmm are you guys not skipping the repeating identical cutscenes at the start & end of every shrine? And the lightroot cutscenes.

I haven't done the math, but my gut would say that could possibly add like 30% to the total playtime.

Every lightroot's cutscene is probably like 1 minute long, and each shrine's start/end cutscenes probably are over 5 minutes each. That would add up to 400+ hours of cutscenes right there.

81 shrines

that's 77 koroks in that location (give or take finding some at the fringes or if I go elsewhere in search of star shards)

  • Finished getting all the Lightroots. There's still a few mysteries in the Depths that I haven't figured out and/or gotten around to yet.
  • Finished all the labyrinths.
  • Beat the Goron dungeon. It was okay...probably not as good as the Rito one, though I'll admit I sometimes found it easier to just climb and parasail than do things the "right" way. Boss was fine too, though the new power is pretty fun.
  • Getting close to the Zora dungeon.

There is so stuff in this game, though I'm still not sure it is a good thing.

I wish there was a way to find out where specific armor pieces are, especially once you're at 2/3 of a set.

I am probably taking a very weird route storywise, given I went:
Fire Temple -> Wind Temple -> Spirit Temple -> Master Sword

So much stuff!

I was continuing to make my way to the Zora dungeon and I decided to go back to Lookout Landing to cache in some orbs. Some lady was like "oh no, a spooky voice!". And there went the next hour! I found 2 pieces of a set of armor down there and realized that the last had to be there too and I just missed it. Looked online and turns it out some rocks can only be destroyed with hammers, not bombs, which quickly made me realize what the spot was.

Oh yeah, beat the Water Temple 2 days ago. I thought it was pretty poor overall. Definitely the worst of the 3 Ive done so far.

I went back to the Spirit Temple area again but Ive no idea how to actually start it or get inside. Either Im being dumb or theres some other criteria I havent met yet.

Finally found the dude who starts the quest for the various tablets Ive found around the world. Id already marked some of them on the map, so that will help.

Ive done basically nothing in the Gerudo area so lots of Shrines to still do there in addition to the Temple.

Did you fly directly into the storm?

Also finished this recently, fantastic. Definitely do not have the time to 100% this but its very tempting. I thought the Construct Factory was an interesting dungeon, I really like how that and the Gerudo dungeon changed up the formula. The last dungeon also does the same. The whole finale sequence is the best in the series from the big battle with dozens of enemies to Ganondorf reviving to his health bar breaking the boundaries to the dragons to catching Zelda. Actually genuinely emotional too.

Dungeon ranking:

Gerudo>Goron>Construct Factory>Rito>Final>Hyrule Castle>Zora

I guess we can count Hyrule Castle??? Regardless Zora was easily the weakest, the rest were a big step up from the Breath of the Wild dungeons. Overall its amazing how this game expands on that one, they really used having that foundation already to laid out to the fullest.
