It just seems like an incredibly boring process having to hit the ball, then walk up to the ball and hit it again. I just don't understand the pleasure in doing a sport that doesn't take any type of physical endurance. Is it called a sport as an excuse for rich people to congregate and talk about ruling the world?

"an activity involving physical exertion and skill in which an individual or team competes against another or others for entertainment."

It may not be as exhausting as several other sports, but it absolutely requires physical exertion and skill.

Could you also explain why people enjoy it? I just don't get the appeal.

I can tell you why I enjoy it.

Its gets me outside and away from everything. Its challenging and competitive both externally and internally. You start every shot striving for perfection and the small percentage of the time when you execute well it feels amazing. Its about getting better, and is both physically and mentally demanding in a way that is very appealing to me. All the frustration is worth it.

(and Im a 15 handicap not good)

I don't consider golf to be a sport; it should be classified as a hobby, just like bowling.

I couldn't because I don't enjoy golf, but I also understand the idea that people do enjoy both playing and watching it, mostly because I enjoy things that some other people don't. We don't all like the same things and that's cool.

Try and walk 18 holes with clubs and say there's no endurance needed lol. I've walked 50 holes in a day which just about killed me

Most people don't do that though, they just ride in a cart. Even then you're still swinging at least 50 times which isn't easy for a beginner.

Walking 18 holes can be pretty strenuous. Its not like playing a game of football sure but its probably around the level of a baseball game.

Caddies and carts negates that nonsense.

I don't consider something a sport when there's no defensive aspect to stop your opponent from winning. Golf is a skills competition. Not trying to take anything away from people who play it because it does require a ton of skill and even physical conditioning to some degree, but I think of it like the home run derby or something.

TC has never played golf or else theyd know there is physical endurance involved along with learning how hard to hit the ball, which club to use, and how the weather affects your game.

It's like a game you play while walking through a nature trail. It's not so much the actual golfing itself but the whole package. Being outdoors with friends walking along the grass/woods, getting smashed at the clubhouse, etc.

lol no.

I played baseball for 10 years, 90% of the game is sitting on a bench or standing in the field. The other 10% of sprinting doesnt make up for that. Im a lot more tired after walking a full round of golf than after a game of baseball. Pitchers and catchers are the exception.

Reasons I love to go golfing:

  1. Really good exercise. My local course is probably 5 miles total walking 18.
  2. Being outside in nature. I've seen a ton of cool animals while on the course. Foxes, bunnies, herons, turtles, pheasants and even an otter.
  3. It's challenging and there's always ways to improve your game. It's very addictive.
  4. Fun activity to do with friends.
  5. Fun activity to play alone. This is the way I play 95% of the time and it's always a blast.
  6. Something you can drink or get high while playing.
  7. Can be the perfect place to listen to music. If it's not crowded I can pop in headphones or put on my speaker and just zone out.
  8. Finding free stuff, I've found probably 400 golf balls the past 6 months.

I think it would be a pretty cool sport if the clubs were heavily weighted to the point where it takes someone with a decent amount of physical strength to hit. Then it would be a game of skill + strength + endurance. Your opponent would essentially just be the wind.

Clearly you've never tried it. It takes an incredible amount of precision and accuracy to play at a pro level, mentally and physically. They make it look so easy, but if you've ever tried it you would probably have a greater appreciation.
