What gives?

Theres a karma restriction right now, so shitposting alts have to wait to spam up the board with their nonsense.

Unless youre referring to 10 years ago, in which case yeah, its way less active.

I'd say it's pretty active compared to other boards, certainly more than 313 aka the UK board

They've been slowly killing the community more and more. I've definitely used the boards less since the latest recent controversy.

Site started going downhill when Allen pulled the plug on game board social boards. That's where all the contributors hung out.

I remember when you'd post a topic and it would be gone from the front page within 10 minutes due to how busy this place used to be.

I think I prefer it now personally.

As mentioned previously the recent level requirements will mean trolls won't be able to return as quickly as they used to. I don't necessarily think that's a bad thing either.

During peak times topics used to be on page 2 or 3 within a minute.

The more accounts get banned or suspended, the less active this board gets. The karma restriction really helped that.

? contributor boards still exist, or do you mean contributor in a different sense? Review and FAQ boards still relatively active

I doubt mostly anyone current would ever remember this but GameFAQs did have an IRC network briefly for chat, and that was under CjayC's reign.

It did not last long. I think it was a huge task of moderation which needed to be active 24/7 whereas he had enough manpower in mods to barely slip by doing the forums

Good riddance if it is.

Turns out putting a bunch of 13 year olds in charge of your websight so you dont have to pay them leads to hemorrhaging users. Back when this websight was at peak users they would ban and usermap for the most tedious shit. Actively trying to restrict people from using your websight was always a formula that was built to destroy this place.

It was, of course, just one aspect of the poor decision making that drove this place into the ground though. But one alone that could kill many places all by itself.

"right now". We always knew the restriction was for good, and when they said "oh, btw it's temporary" it further reinforced it's permanent.

-mods are heavy handed with some users and not others leading to an aura of elitism and brigading
-completely unnecessary karma restriction

-constant dogpiling and scarlet letter punishments allowed by some users

But nah much easier to blame users on the suspension train.

A side not is, this is all by design. CE is the new LUE. Fandom doesn't want CE, or social boards, period

Its considered trolling because people get so mad about it for no reason. Got modded for it multiple times.

And no idea on the pirate guy but the mods have been cracking down hard on any gimmick the last few years.

I actually feel like the board got more hostile and aggressive for some reason. Then again, I dont recognize most of the usernames anymore, even before the board merger.

And the thing is the YES! ARUGULAS!!! and YAARR MATEY, BE A GOOD MAN! and WWE-propaganda style posts actually make people laugh and diffuse what'd be a very charged atmosphere, which results in more moderations.

I haven't noticed anything. Trolls and alts aside most who could and did post here regularly wouldn't have been affected by the requirement changes.
