From TunnelScene:
there is some specific song this intro feels exactly the same as melodically but I cant figure out what.
Chapel Sky from Harmony of Dissonance, possibly the arrange version from the soundtrack album or Shnabubula's "Behold the Winged Cathedral" remix in particular. Later parts of the song also resemble the Fairy Fountain melody from The Legend of Zelda.

MATCH 1

Mission 3's a pretty nice song from start to finish! I really enjoy the loops of the synths and soft electric guitar, as well as that arpeggio at 0:34. The song manages to always stay fresh throughout its duration and never starts to get tiring ever.

Echoing Library has some really great instrumentation. Really like how the electric organ sounds here, and the song quickly piles on the violin, electric guitar, and drums for a full and satisfying sound.

MATCH 2

Tour Sydney Sprint has a fun, catchy melody.

nATALIE has a lot of cool things going for it. The intro, as skulltrumpet put it, has a very fairytale-like feeling to it. Really dreamlike in a sort of Alice in Wonderland kind of way. I really like the main vocal melody overall. 1:47 is where it really heads into the kind of territory I look for. Harmonizing vocals and heavy layering of different sounds and instruments, yes please! 2:37 is also really nice for the piano arpeggios. That's another thing I like hearing a lot of the time. 3:26-4:00 is definitely my favorite vocal melody in the song, which is only improved upon by the subtle pad chords and the piano arpeggios that in a way feel like they imply an additional chord? Like an extended chord of sorts. I imagine that the difference in tempo between the vocals and the percussion stacked on top of each other at 4:47 is a big draw for some to this song, though I could personally do without it. That said, it's not really a big deal to me that it's in here since I don't exactly dislike it or anything. 5:48-7:11's probably my favorite part of the song with the drum 'n bass style drumming adding a good amount of energy to the song that only further adds to all the layers of sound going on in this part (and even more that get added here and there like that extra synth that you can hear most prominently at 6:30). This was another very cool discovery this year. I've been getting really heavily into vocaloid stuff the past few years (though mainly just a lot of the more popular songs lol), so this appeals a lot to my tastes right now. Probably my desired retiree for C4 now that Koi Yume's out. It's nice to hear a more obscure song like this that I probably wouldn't have gotten the chance to hear were it not for this contest (edit: that's probably most new discoveries I like from this contest now that I think about it lol), so thanks UF8!

MATCH 3

I'm usually not the biggest fan of Ace Combat songs, so the idea of Fatherland being akin to one isn't the greatest selling point for me. Though, this feels very distinct from the Ace Combat songs I've been exposed to in a number of ways. The drumming starting at 0:57 I think is the biggest thing that improves this song. That's probably also in part what drew me more to songs like Mimic in the AC7 lineup of VGMC entries. Though, the song loses me from around the 2 minute mark up to 5:34, where it gets better again. Bit of a mixed bag, this song, but I feel like the parts I don't like as much take up more of the song than the parts I do like, unfortunately.

Panic in the Sky is a solid rock song. There's definitely better stuff out there in this style, but it's plenty serviceable and is an easy pick in this match.
