Or is this year a good representation of what we should expect from gaming moving forward?

I fear this year and early next years onslaught of anticipated titles will lead to a large drought again after that. The industry just cant see to consistently produce quality titles like they used to.

If anything we've been due for a big year of gaming hits. It used to be a lot more frequent too.

AAA studios say if they start developing a game now it'll be next-gen (PS6/Xbox Squared or whatever), so that seems kinda rough

Didnt this gen just start? PS5 still doesnt even have any console exclusives. Basically everything runs just as well on the PS4.

So either they want to pretend this gen didnt happen or brand new games are 5 years away.

AAA games just take that much time and resources to make nowadays.

Where exactly is this onslaught of titles? There's 5 games I'm looking forward to and 2 of those probably aren't coming out until well into 2024 or later. That doesn't seem like a lot.

To be clear, that's saying if they start development now. It takes a while to develop games these days. Most of what we're seeing announced now has been in the works for years. There will still be lots more released between now and next gen. But those games have already been in the works. Most AAA companies aren't putting out games in 1-2 years anymore.

Take Armored Core 6, for example. After years of rumors, we finally got confirmation that it was coming back in December and now it's only a few months away. But From Soft started development on it all the way back in 2018.

Because they haven't announced much past that yet. People said the same thing about this year back in 2021.

GTA 6 is in 2025 and Nintendo's new console will probably be out late next year. And who knows what else is scheduled for 2025.

Just because many of them don't interest you, doesn't negate the fact that we're getting a huge influx of big titles in 1 year.

console and pc gaming is just dead

all the games im looking forward to are on mobile. people like to make fun of mobile but at least there are games coming out for it lol

We're halfway through the current gen (granted, it might get extended by a few years because of "pause" during the pandemic shortage), so... given that new games do take several years to make... PS6/Xboxwhatever is not an unreasonable expectation.

AAA titles, anyways.
