What happened to that, I remember spamming it with some Steins;Gate topics to fit in, and then it went away and was never remade but I've been playing some still. I know I don't play the horny ones, but I almost bought Fate Morgana because I guess I am now going down that path but I still have a Steins;Gate left. And Hermitage Strange Case Files. Which are the makers of the possibly underwhelming Mato Anomalies game. Anyhow.

Also to rib on this game, no one spell checked this game, I loved the first story (intrigued) by the third, but there are spelling errors everywhere.

Ive been meaning to read Rose Gun Days, and get into other Key VNs as well but Ive been playing the Trails series instead which is so story focused I havent felt like reading a real VN

Apparently they're considering making a sequel to Ghost Trick if the remaster sells well but I already paid $100 for a new DS copy of one several years ago.

As for me, finished Chaos;Head Noah and started on Kara no Shojo 2. This beginning section in the mountains is so slow. Let me get back to being a detective.

Steins;Gate and 0 are both masterpieces

Danganronpa is an amazing series. Zero Escape is also very good but the quality of the individual games varies

Also it made me sick but but I was playing this visual novel a Cthulhu creature blew a hole right through their hand and they were adressing this, but man at the time I was like holy crap. She lived and saved her friend but she had a hole in her hand and just that first chapter.

Are there any particularly noteworthy ones these days that are actually, like, famous?

VNs are kinda in this bloat-lull where they are all over the place (even the Switch outside of Japan is full of them) yet people rarely talk about them or even seem to hear about them.

What got me to try Visual Novels was 13 Sentinels Aegis Rim, so I found Steins;Gate. Really liked it, but I don't want to just play dating ones. I know some others, I haven't tried yet like Fate Morgana (there's another one utowanomu or something I know I messed that up) but I think they can be fun to interact with if they aren't some sort of nsfw/or sex games.

That's why I try some that seem more different. I am going to get those Fishman someday! The cthlulu mythos is fun.

That's a hard chapter to get through. Takuji fucking a desk is the least questionable part of it. But the next chapter is the worst (not in terms of writing, just how depressing it is).

These days VNs are not that rare in english anymore, a few years ago it was much much worse.

vndb.org is probably the best VN list with mostly solid userraitings. If this isn't good enough to sell the site to you, just think of VNDB as a central fanwiki / database about VNs, but without Fandom.

Steam and GoG have quite some VNs in english in store, and Mangagamer has a lot of stuff too, especially if you look more at the Hentai side of VNs.

Luckily Wonderful Everyday is a bit more hopeful than it lets on imo, but yeah the first few parts are really rough, made worse by the fact that it's based on events that happened in real life. The author interviewed quite a lot of people before writing it. Also despite how little it makes sense, I think almost everything kinda has a semi-realistic explanation for it... though that's a bit deceptive. It has a certain set of rules and it certainly follows it.

Of course the last VN I've read was 13 Sentinels, which was the best game I played that year I think? or was Xenoblade 3 that year and was better. Before that was Great Ace Attorney, which wasn't my favorite AA but top 3 at minimum. For some reason, I'm a huge fan of Dual Destinies, which is being remastered soon.

Not something I would recommend for people new to visual novels, because its a bit... messed upped. A lot. For real.

Actually, I would not recommend that blindly to anyone without knowing them these days, because there are some quite heavy scenes.

But it's still a great VN.

Play Remember 11: The Age of Infinity, Root Double, 428: Shibuya Scramble, The Sekimeiya: Spun Glass, AI: The Somnium Files, and the Zero Escape series. Visual novels as a genre are trash, made for people who like trash, and it is very rare that they ever rise above that benchmark.

Again, it's not a bad VN. It's a great one in fact.

Just dark, strange, messed up, and DEFINITLY not for everyone. If you read it, expect the number of times you think "what the fuck?" hitting three digits.

The 'worst' parts are definitely in It's My Own Invention and Looking Glass Insects. Zakuro didn't deserve that. But if you can clear those chapters, it's not too bad from there.

After reading the whole VN, I'm still too stupid to understand what the prolog was supposed to be.

It's already quite some years ago, and my memories becoming more hazy about that over time doesn't help.

It's been ages for me too and I didn't really understand it either, but I think it might be a dream world created by Ayana as End Sky II implies that she's dreaming and everything we saw in the game was fictional. She's the player or she's god or a combination of all three. Of course, this is all just a theory and I still don't totally get it. After I finished End Sky II, my mind was in tatters.

Even if you didn't understand exactly what was going on, the prologue is just a dream sequence to basically introduce you to the characters. Because you don't actually get to see Zakuro as much prior to the events of Down the Rabbit Hole 2, it's supposed to build the mystery behind why she died and what is actually real. The entire first 3 chapters are geared towards tricking the viewer into thinking this world is more magical than realistic. But of course, the next few chapters will quickly show you that everything is far more grounded in reality, and Zakuro died of very unfortunate circumstances, which drives the MC, suffering from a dissociative personality disorder born from a trauma of another death of a closed loved one to go utterly crazy and put a grand revenge plan in motion. The real reason why It's My Own Invention is so trippy and horror-like with often nonsensical visuals is that the main character has been coping with heavy drugs for the entire duration of the story. Because it's still the same body, it also explains why "Yuki" in the 2nd part often shares in some of the weird delusions because she's also partially on drugs without realizing it.

If you want to go to all the metaphysical stuff, it's gets hazy because I believe there was never a very clear Word of God interview type thing to confirm or deny any fan theories. So I wouldn't read too much into it. It will only truly make sense if you think about it from a narrative pov

Glad ppl are using this topic for some seemingly legit discussions. I spoiled some minor stuff about that Heritage game, but no one is going to try that. I think I am half way through it.

I actually had to stop reading for a week after Looking Glass Insects. It's My Own Invention was bad enough but LGI was a whole other level. I congratulate the author for writing something so abhorrent and bleak that I had to give myself a break.

Yeah Looking Glass Insects is truly one of a kind. It's even more soul crushing to know it's based off of a true story. It also puts the absurdity of It's My Own Invention into a very different perspective. I think the story forcing you into reflection of previous parts knowing more context is very well done in general

I was thinking of clozin this because I don't care as I look aside. I know my Minus the Bear topic should still be there. It's not! See this is now making me think I am the infection. Anyhow super old Offspring is playing and the game I made this for, I've been playing a lot of Octopath Traveler 2.

I need to see how that Hermitage ends someday. Might as well check Gamefaqs ( the game does have a fake website you can read shit).
