XVI will be the last numbered FF. Future games will be sequels to Stranger of Paradise.

Right. Strangers in Paradise is the comic book. My bad SE, but you probably should've named it something else!

They've already said this might be the last numbered FF.

I personally like the numbering going strong. At this point it makes them uniquely stubborn.

personally i doubt this is true, i think they stand to lose far more than they stand to gain by abandoning the numbering system.

anyone who is interested in a new entry but is concerned about the "do i need to play the first 16 of them before this one" can easily learn that via google or word of mouth as it's an extremely common question.

whereas i think you might lose more sales from casual gamers by releasing a mainline game with just a subtitle and no number and having to explain that it's not actually a spinoff game like every other FF game with no number

I've only played the main games from 6 onward, so I didn't know the original had limited use magic. It also explains why there's that pirate dude in the videos I've seen from Strangers of Paradise.

They're gonna drop the numbering for a an entry or two and then FF17 is gonna be the "return to form"

I unironicly love Stranger of Paradise and kind of want to dive into the DLC some time soon.
