I don't watch much anime (last series i saw was Steins;Gate 0), but I keep seeing this one as among the more popular series these days. My sister's currently watching it in the other room and, I swear, literally every moment is either insane screaming or the driest exposition imaginable, with precisely no in-between. It is the noisiest piece of media I've been exposed to in a fair while and yet also the dullest.

Sure, some of this might be blamed on the dubbing, but I have to imagine the original Japanese is quite similar, too. It might also just be the trappings of the shonen genre and I do try to avoid bashing people's preferences, but I'm usually able to understand why someone likes something, even if its not for me. If this is supposed to be a quality or at least popular example, then, I'm at a loss as to why people bother with it.

Like, I'm just ranting, really, but this truly is insufferable.

The first season was good, but the series goes tumbling down afterwards.
The author has stated that Dragon Ball was an inspiration, but he clearly didn't understand the assignment.

No. Basically had the same quality structure as game of thrones. Where it starts out pretty decent, peaks just before the midpoint, and then divebombs into the center of the Earth's core.

The last season might be one of the worst pieces of media ever released from a quality comparison standpoint.

I haven't even actually seen any of it, so, I wouldn't know. I'm going off what I'm hearing from a room away.

But it's like, I'll hear an action scene, all the noises and dramatic music you'd expect, and then a character will near enough give a play by play of what just happened and why and how a given character won that particular round. Even before a fight, the characters feel the need to outline precisely why they believe its going to go a certain way. It's like I've got audio description on permanently, along with a text to speech program aimed at a fan wiki.

As I said, I don't watch much anime, so, maybe this is just how things are. But it's not really inspiring me to change that.

It's honestly a pretty typical Shounen. If you're looking for something different, or with dialogue that doesn't sound like it's recycled from every anime ever, try something like Oddtaxi.

I think she's on season 3, so, maybe I'm just having an atrocious first impression.

It's a hot pile of garbage with a moderately interesting premise and a half decent season 1 that gets dumber and worse looking every season that follows. It culminates in a final arc that involves a bad jrpg style final villain that pops out of literally nowhere just to drag things out a little bit longer. The character relationships are almost universally creepy at best, straight up sexual assault at worst, and is absolutely infested with "thousand-year-old loli" syndrome where grown ass adults are in relationships with people in children's bodies.

Character abilities are barely used in any sort of creative way outside of spamming the same types of attacks over and over again, and half the roster has some sort of DEM final attack anyway where you're just waiting for plot convenience to kick in at just the right moment for them to use it.

Of all the shounen that I've watched or read over the years, it is easily the worst that I've seen.

That's because you're listening to an anime where the target demographic is middle school - high school aged boys. They explain a lot because the writing is intentionally dumbed down and you're not actually supposed to sit there and analyze it as if it were high cinema.

Watched the entire season 1. The only time I got entertained was the spear throw. The whole time I was just watching for the sake of finishing it. I saw some clips of the Escanor character, meh. After that dropped it for good.

Main character is a predator, and it gets worse when you get some backstory. Second season introduces a device that deflates a lot of the interest around character strength. Animation and fights get worse as the show goes on.

I don't understand how people think it "starts pretty good". Like, I tried the first few episodes, and it was incredibly bad, even for a shounen anime.

It started out so strong but just got crappier and crappier as it went along, there's a sequel series going on now but I ain't reading that.

Which mimicked what happened with the manga. Started out really damn strong and interesting, absolutely crashed and burned at the end.

You watch it for Escanor and no other reason.

It's pretty bad, and frankly I have no idea how or why it took off exactly. But if i had to guess Likely the characters and their chemistry were pretty good in my opinion.

Which is probably the most important aspect of shonen series and can be the differance between a success or a dud by itself. Fairy tail, HxH(first few arcs) and Bleach come to mind in this regard.

Also the premise is interesting initially. Even if nothing is really done with it.

No it's godawful

I find it to be meh, just like Fairy Tail.
Kinda shame since i kinda like the author's previous work, Kongou Bachou.

His fights are some of my favorite anime fights, he also turned a rather simple phrase into an incredibly badass boast.

Who decided that?

The rest of the series is pretty meh though.
