This was the most weirdly-okay-not-good-but-also-not-bad movie I've ever seen in my life. The script felt like a first draft of a movie script, scenes felt contrived, the movie moved at a strangely fast pace, jokes were either really good, or fell completely flat. I think it was objectively not actually a good movie, but I couldn't help but enjoy myself watching it. I think it helped that I'm a big Mario fan and I was having a lot of fun looking for easter eggs and throwbacks to Mario games.

I hope the next Nintendo movie feels more like a real movie, but this was a fun time in spite of the obvious problems it had.

I mean, given that the Mario games have virtually no storyline, something like the SMB movie is likely as good as you'll get with it. I'm sure they can tweak the pacing and plot points for future movies, but yeah.

It was a fairly solid kids movie.
Which, yeah is about all I expected. Lots of fun flashing colorful lights, funny jokes, random callbacks.

I was asked to go to it, I didn't regret it, but I wouldn't watch it again.

When I saw it I described is as weirdly forgettable, despite being enjoyable enough.

Short of adapting one of the Paper Mario or M&L games, the story they had to work with was mostly "Bowser kidnapped somebody important, go get them back."
