PPP was designed to be forgiven with specific stipulations in the contract enabling them to be forgiven given certain actions were taken to keep employment up instead of immediate permanent layoffs.

There was not anywhere in a student loan contract even the possibility it might be forgiven at any point.

Youre right. Its just frustrating to see so many of you spewing hate all day long about politics.

It's really simple. You enter a contract, you take out a loan, you pay it back.

I want to socialize education to a much greater extent to make it so future students don't need to take out these loans. But those who did....they need to pay what they agreed to owe.

You don't get to just take money from people, promise to pay them back, and then just expect to walk away without paying.

I paid mine off because it was the right thing to so.

Around 74,000, and that was after my scholarships.

I bartended nights all throughout law school just to pay down those loans. Missed every single football game in a college town that very much cares about their college football team. I even lied to my law school and said I was only working 20 hours a week because they had a policy that students couldn't work more than 20 hours per week while enrolled in classes. I knew I needed to work more than that to pay what I owed so I did. My grades suffered for it. I still finished above 50th percentile, but I can't help feel like I could've done so much more with more time.

I watched other classmates not work, go out, have fun, and get far more time to study for final exams. They kicked the can down the road because they were lazy. And people want to tell me that those people should get rewarded twice for choosing to neglect on their duties and not pay towards what they owed? Fuck that.

No. I don't. That's why I advocate for a more socialized education system. I don't want future students to have to take out loans like that. I think it's complete bullshit and is in direct contradiction with our country's own interests.

I hope by the time my (future) children get to college things are very different.

But for those of us who took out those loans? Those of us who knew the terms that were offered and agreed to them? Yes, we should have to pay them back. If you didn't want to pay that loan, you shouldn't have taken it.

I like the part where any time a reporter asks the Biden administration about paying back the responsible people that sacrificed to pay off their loans already, they just dodge the question or sheepishly are like, "yeah, maybe..."
Cause apparently the "immoral" system is ok when perpetrated on those that worked their asses off and put off travel and getting a house.

No one made anyone go to an expensive college. Community college. State universities. Various programs for scholarships or loan forgiveness for military service or government employment. The options were there all along.

The people who agreed to those terms were not "wronged". The choices that were offered to me (and them) were shitty, but nobody forced me to take that loan. I chose to take that loan. They chose to take that loan.

I had other choices. I could have gone to a trade school or no college at all.

In fact, I know many people from my high school who did just that. They couldn't afford college, and they figured they couldn't afford to pay back the student loans, so they took a completely different path and got jobs that would accept people with high school education. They took lower paying jobs and raises their families with the options they had because they didn't want to fail on paying a loan they knew they couldn't afford.

Now, here we are, 13 years later, and you want to tell them that "Aaaaaaaactually. Turns out the joke is on you guys! Haha! All those people who took out those loans you were responsible enough to avoid? Turns out they were all free! Your peers that are currently making 3x what you are for the last decade have just been given a free ride to boot! Now you responsible plebs that have wasted the last 13 years working your lower paid jobs because you didnt want to take on a debt you couldnt pay, that was all wasted! Get fucked lower class! "
