Let It Die - Let It Die ~always see you there~
Iseki-jima to Nanatsu no Mahou - Banbard (Piano Version)
Sonic Adventure 2 - Fly In The Freedom Theme of ROUGE

MATCH 1

Feels like there's more songs than usual in the contest this year that appeal to my indie rock tastes. This version of Let It Die is one of them! There's this structure of certain drumming patterns (strong 2 and 4 beats) and emphasis on minor chords as well as the steady back-and-forth strumming of chords that's something I really like in things like indie rock or post-punk. These are all things that Always See You There does really well.

They Who Govern Reason is a very fun song to listen to with all those stabs and the short, quick violin playing. Pretty decent melodically too. Good match, but I think Always See You There is more emblematic of my tastes.

MATCH 2

Not a fan of Sometimes I Breathe. Don't really like the vocals, and something about the background instruments feels off to me throughout most of the song. I think it's that synth starting at around 1:26 that plays those rapid notes. That higher-pitched instrument at around 1:58 also feels too dissonant for me when it harmonizes with the other instruments and the vocals.

The Chroma remix of Banbard was good, but I was super excited to see the original song get nominated and make it into the contest. It's definitely up there in my list of favorite mozell songs. In fact, I chose this song as my favorite song in Bracket D! Banbard makes really great use of harmonizing/countermelodies with how it stacks different melodic lines and instruments on top of each other with each layer complementing the others. It's a compositional thing I've definitely talked about quite a bit this year and in the past, and it still holds true here! On top of that, I get a strong sense of emotion conveyed through this song, especially in the piano chords. It almost feels bittersweet? Like a mixture of bright, happy melodies in the lead instruments, but with a tinge of sadness from the piano chords. Really great song!

MATCH 3

Fly in the Freedom is really nice! There's a lot of things I like about this that all work together really well in tandem. Some of the broader things being the chords, melody, and rhythm. But I think the instrumentation might be the biggest thing for me. I like the use of all the distinct instruments that are in use here.

Moonlight Canyon's a decent song. It doesn't have the feel of songs like Northeast Frost Street, or Faded Dream of a Psychomeddler for that matter. By this, I mean that it feels more like a classic Kirby song than those two songs that were very refreshing surprises, which isn't a bad thing at all, but I'm less interested in songs like that.

Banbard (Piano Version) > Let It Die ~always see you there~ = Reason Fly In The Freedom Theme of ROUGE > They Who Govern > Moonlight Canyon >> sometimes i breathe

This match 2 might be the most lopsided match for me in the contest. My #1 favorite song in Bracket D against what's probably in the bottom 5 of Bracket D.

Fly In The Freedom Theme of ROUGE

im so late aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa here are some improvised comments.

> let it die is cool, much better than the other let it die.
> i love these strings so much, favorite song of the game probably; i think i'll be fine with whoever wins though, these are all in the same level.
> kinda hard to follow because how long it is, but i've always liked Date of Birth style. song's good.
> this combination of instruments is really, really nice. the armonica and the synth thing mix super well. i think i still prefer the Chroma remix better, but this doesn't let down in any way.
> "five minutes should be plenty" they were so real for saying this and making this song just about 5 minutes because it's really good. iconic chorus, bossa nova-ish vibe, it's very mysterious but still really listenable and catchy. whoever designed Rogue stages with this direction is a god. just a great time overall.
> thank god this is 2 minutes, otherwise i wouldn't be able to send. ok so yeehaw kirby. yeah this is a desert song alright. not much to say, it's alright. the guitar bits are good. yeah it's fine.

send tweet.

Let It Die ~always see you there~
Banbard (Piano Version)
Fly In The Freedom Theme of ROUGE

I'm really digging this Let it Die song, some real good electric guitar and kinda subdued vocals that sound like I'm hearing them within a dream. Pretty good song overall!

This Octopath song feels a little too "by the numbers" for me to pick out anything that feels interesting to me. It sounds good, but it's otherwise nothing too special to me.

Unfortunately, I definitely prefer how do you think? from last year when it comes to DOB, but I definitely dig the vocals and the chill vibe all throughout. This one definitely handles the synths a little more playfully, it helps creates the trippy/dreamy atmosphere I get from hearing it.

The piano version of Banbard is just incredibly happy and playful to me, the piano and accordion just create this energetic jig that I want to dance to. The lead synth can be a little much at times, but I overall enjoy it more than dislike it and I think it's a core part of the song that shouldn't be swapped out for anything. This definitely activates my neurons in a really good way!

Fly in the Freedom is just TOO cool, and that's saying something considering who the main character for the game is. Everything about this - the smooth jazz, the enchanting vocals, the coolness factor - it all comes together into a package, and the gift inside is one of my favorite Sonic vocal songs to date for sure.

Moonlight Canyon sounds like it could easily have been from the original Return to Dream Land soundtrack, I get those vibes instantly. In any case, this sounds like a good Wild West-esque track for a level, but it's nothing too strong for me. I kinda wish it would ditch the violins and go harder into the Western instruments, I think that would make it sound even more fun for me.
