Do we know yet if this game is more like Pikmin 1/2 or Pikmin 3? Vastly preferred the open world RTS approach of the first two games to 3's more action-gamey style with screen breaks. Not sure if I'm explaining this right. It looks more like 2 but hard to tell if that's just from the way the trailers have been edited.

It looks much more like 2 to me which is partially why I'm so excited, but I can't be certain. Maybe I'm being thrown off by the return of caves.

I've seen quite a few people getting into it this past week, I'm hoping this is merely the beginning of Pikmin's ascent in popularity.

The demo is out, I'm not playing it as I know I'll get the game anyway but if anyone is on the fence it's there!

Also a new overview trailer, it's largely just the Direct info again but there's a few new things later on. I'm glad all the pik types are represented in the main game, but I'm not sure how I feel about having a max of 3 types travelling with you at any one time. There's a new rewind feature now for those who don't want to lose anyone. Played the demo, very odd that Olimars logs are written like hes never met Pikmin before. Guess well see in the full game what the deal is there

the demo ruled, Pikmin is always a fun time. I've been itching for more since it dropped. given how slow the intro is, I'm glad I played it though so I can get right back into the meat of things when I return

Turns out the embargo was just now! Averaging 87 after 28 reviews

88 after 41 reviews on OC, 88 after 66 reviews on MC. I read a review and I'm more hype than ever, seems like this one is filled to the brim with content. More people should get into Pikmin!!

okay i've never played pikmin before and i'm watching my wife play it and let me just say

those pikmin are doing a great job

the game looks super fun and chill

I'm glad this game is reviewing well but the number of people saying it's chill/comfy/etc is slightly worrying to me. Pikmin isn't supposed to be chill, it's supposed to make you extremely stressed and full of anxiety!

I dunno, Pikmin 3 was a cakewalk outside the final boss. The time limit basically didn't exist except when you briefly lose your food supply, which is super easy to recover so I'm fine with it being gone.

I'm on the third area now. I'm not sure "chill" is the right word - it is very satisfying to be able to multitask but you're basically still always active. While you don't have to be, there's still tons of fun in the optimization. Case in point is probably the dandori challenges which are small missions with a time limit. You can clear with a low rank but it's extremely fun to replay them and go for the highest ranking which is actually pretty tight! They're catering to a broad range of play styles with this one.

yeah but I thought that game sucked. being like pikmin 3 is a deal-breaker for me!

Anyway my previous post was somewhat tongue in cheek, I know that people generally don't want the tension of Pikmin 1/parts of Pikmin 2 and I can't blame Nintendo for not wanting to make a hard reset back to that. If Pikmin 4 can stay interesting for multiple play styles that's a great thing to hear.

It was on sale at Costco so I picked it up on a whim and I might try being the coop guy with my son.

I didnt like pikman3, it felt too much like a job. Well see how this one goes I suppose

Honestly I've been finding the game kind of boring so far (about done with the 2nd area).
There's not really been any kind of challenge or pressure.

Just finished earlier today at 31 and a half hours. Still need to do a few more things to fully be done with it Finishing off Olimar's mode, getting the purple and white onions, getting platinum on a few more Dandori, and getting that gold bar treasure

4 has gotten better in the later portions

I'd still say its pretty "mid" as the kids say these days.

My issue with 4 in the later portions is that the game becomes "The Oatchi Show! featuring Purple and Ice Pikmin"

Yeah Oatchi is not a great addition. He just feels like a walking and barking cheat.

Yeah Oatchi gets way too buff and Ice Pikmin are extremely powerful too. Charging with Otachi is lol on most enemies

I kinda hesitate to say it's too easy because it seems like it would be decently complex for people who haven't played much of the series, but knowing all the tricks and mechanics from the other game simplifies things immensely and lets you take advantage of the new shit. Still had fun but I guess I wish there was an expert mode or something.

Ah dang, I wasn't hyped for Oatchi but it's disappointing if his presence trivialises things. I was hoping this would be the definitive Pikmin game!

I have a feeling that the minimum required days is 8, but I want to hit that, since I took 12 the first time through.
