a lawyering is the result of someone saving too early but it isn't caught before the round is over, which creates a fake elimination

What does this mean?

If you make a save for a character, but that save is less than an hour after your previous save, then that character is not technically safe. However, because this is such a fiddly situation, often times no one shows up to double tap and give that character a save, thinking they're safe. Then the end of the round comes around, and it's revealed that a character got eliminated by "lawyering". Thus, the person who fucked up their save times and caused a lawyering is punished by being banned from saving for five rounds.

However, the hour limit to discover lawyerings is basically enforced to avoid hassle on the host's part, and even if a character was not properly saved, as long as it isn't called out within an hour of the end of the round, they're considered safe, and the initial result stands.

This sounds like a reason not to use a script/bot for vote counting but I doubt this actually comes up much anyway.

We had it happen like 3-4 times in one contest a while ago is why the rule is there.

Also I think the script/bot counting has actually helped quite a bit. Basically the only type of lawyering that happens now is an early save at the very end, whereas before some of them were random early saves in the middle.
