I watched it back in the day but I'm not sure that would really be my sense of humor now. It was also disappointing to me to later find out that they straight up just lifted a Japanese show and put new dubs and graphics over it. Though I'm not really sure what I thought it was before since the dubs were always obviously fake

That was why it was so funny. It was clearly a bunch of people who didn't care about the original translation just BSing their way through the dub.

I'm not sure how you couldn't tell this at the time. It was blatantly obvious.

The original is funny too.

For people who are actually interested in the original version but don't speak Japanese, you can always try to track down episodes of the British version of "Takeshi's Castle". They keep the format the same as the original Japanese version, but just put English commentary on it so Western audiences can understand what's going on.

The dubbed conversations were the best part of that show. So ridiculous, but sometimes you just need a completely goofy show to make you laugh.

The lack of great commentary is likely why I couldn't stand Wipeout. The physical comedy of the obstacle courses wasn't what made MXC so great, and Wipeout didn't seem to get that.

Yeah the original makes a lot more sense too. And it makes MXC more funny when you learn MXC is doing the exact opposite.
And MXC missed a lot of the games that I assume they couldn't make a joke about. Some of it was repetitive but MXC mostly only showed the final challenges. The early easier stuff was skipped except for the climbing the wall.

The whole point was mostly to show the wipeouts, with maybe one or two people succeeding. So they would generally focus on the harder events and ignore the easier ones.

And then they turned the one karaoke game into a skit that wasn't even supposed to be part of the competition.
